Watching the pen/subsequent none pen back in the ground yesterday on the big screen, I thought it was ludicrous it was given in the first place, it should have been as clear as day to the ref from his position that it was a very clean tackle. Still, a rare occasion where VAR has done the job it was brought in to do. So all good.

Agreed 100%. What also surprised me was the ref gave us advantage, we missed the shot at goal and then he went back and gave us the penalty.

Most times if you don't take advantage of the advantage given the ref just plays on.

Very inconsistent.

He saw Rogers effort and decided no advantage was taken. As for the pen, he might have thought the tackle came through Watkins to get the ball, ie the foul happened before any contact with the ball. Just a shame he totally disregarded the blatent fouling before entering the box as without the pulling back of the shirt and player, yellow card offences, he wouldn't have then been able to make that tackle.

True but then most refs would have just played on after Rogers miss and not gone back for the pen.

it should have been bought back for the foul on Watkins outside the box, possibly even a red card?

The real shame, for me, is that it was a foul for the pull back outside the box before the tackle but he waved that through.

I completely agree.

There was another first half break when Rogers was being mauled but escaped to set up a chance, which we didn't take advantage of. The ref came back to correctly give a yellow to the Wham player but didn't give the foul.  That peeved me.

Was the foul on Ollie by the last defender?

A red in that case.

It was possibly a red but I suspect he was just about far enough away from the goal with some defenders broadly in the vicinity but would like to see it again. He should have been booked at minimum though.
We should have done much better from the “advantage” though.
It was never a penalty and VAR worked well for once (fixing an initially poor decision, which I guess is what it’s for)
