No, no it's all about upsetting Villa. For some reason we're both a giant of a club, the first English superpower, the only behemoth for a hundred miles in every direction; but we're also a smoll bean team that the media bullies and the other, bigger boys come and take our friends away from us by offering them bigger toys. And then when we're not being bullied by the media we're being ignored by them, which is also upsetting and hurts our feelings.

It's all quite confusing, I'll be honest.

For early clues as to whether or not he'll be starting for England, he's been given the #17 shirt, Bellingham has #10.

Which doesn't mean that he won't be picked ahead of Bellingham, but it's possibly a clue as to who has the edge.

You might be right that it's Bellingham over Rogers. However, it would be bigger media discussion if the numbers were the other way around. I think the media favours Bellingham based on his past England performances and tournament experience. Tuchel has shown that doesn't mean the same with him.

Konsa has been given number 2 so is a shoo-in as Right-Back.

Given he's taken five centre-backs, I wonder whether a 3-5-2 thing is completely out of the question. Konsa / Stones / Guehi, Saka and O'Reilly being very attacking wing-backs, Anderson / Rice / Bellingham in the middle then Rashford and Kane.

I'd ordinarily say that it would be weird to suddenly pivot to that having never tried it before, but probably no less weird than suddenly calling up Toney out of nowhere having previously shown no interest in him.

I think that the squad numbers are down to seniority (in terms of tournament appearances / caps rather than age). Whereby, some players get to choose either their normal club number or a number 1-11

Reece James is the likely RB starter, but he wears 24 for Chelsea.

Although Ezri is likely to start ahead of Stones, the latter has seniority, so gets a normal centre back number.

Spence isn't senior enough or a nailed on starter to get 2, so it goes to Ezri.

O'Reilly gets 3 because he's the likely starter and there's no 'senior' left back in the squad.

Morg's regular 27 is outside the number range. Bellingham is more senior, so is 10. This leaves Morgs with one of the spare numbers

The only surprise to me is that Anderson, rather than Jordan Henderson gets 8

Just what you need to help break down a packed defence! TAA sitting at home.

Only got around to watching our goals v Man City a couple of days ago. On that evidence, it's easy to see why Stones didn't play much club football this season.

His contract runs until 2031. That is five sodding years away. He is an England starter in the number 10 position. The club don't want to sell. There is a 20% sell on fee that we'll want mainly covering by the buyer. Wirtz fee, amongst other comparisons. Lots of interest.

I don't think anyone's going to pay what it will take personally.  It'll be a huge figure. The club can, and probably are, saying 150m or go away. Come back in three years at 120m.

Just posted by Percy in the DT

“ Aston Villa hope to resist offers for Morgan Rogers this summer amid growing interest from rival clubs, including Arsenal.

Rogers enjoyed an excellent season at Villa Park, scoring 10 goals in 37 Premier League appearances and helping Villa to Europa League glory.

The 23-year-old, who scored one goal and assisted another in the Europa League final against Freiburg, is in the England squad for this summer’s World Cup.

Villa are aware that multiple clubs are showing interest in Rogers but have no intention of selling the attacking midfielder, especially after qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

It remains to be seen, however, whether a big offer from a club such as Arsenal would prompt a change of heart among Villa’s key decision-makers.

As always at this level it is mainly down to the player, obviously we will set the bar if there is no release clause fee.
Hope the tapping up at the WC doesn’t get too him.

Yep, get your wallet out boys. We won't be silly and ask for Neymar money. Coutinho will do it.

I wouldn't expect him to be sold to a top 4 rival. If he goes it will be for mega bucks abroad to someone like PSG. Then again they are CL rivals so that's unlikely as well. Our current status must be a bugger.

Along with a lot of others on here, I got very down in the dumps about the current state of fairness involved in this FFP bollocks a few months ago.  Since then, we've won a very important cup and finished 4th again.  Whatever happens this summer with Rogers, we'll be OK.

I fear for your expectations. Of the clubs* that could afford him, 60% are our top four rivals.

If Rogers wants to leave for a club that offers £100m+ he'll be sold. I'm just not sure many clubs are going to be interested at that price.
