I think he was maybe always taking it? But SJM was doing that to take any grief that would come off the Bologna players.

Yeah, that’s almost definitely the case. It  wasn’t a “build up your confidence Morgan” deal. Unai wouldn’t allow such nonsense.

We have been doing the hand the ball to the actual penalty taker at the last second trick for years. Obviously, not this year, as we hadn't previously been awarded one.

I don't know. With the tap-ins or downright misses we have done recently, I thought the keeper did well to get across so fast.

It doesn't crack the top ten worst penalties we've taken in the last few years, but I'm still a firm believer that someone as good as kicking a football where he wants it to go as Rogers is, particularly against this goalkeeper, he should be popping that in the net without a second thought.

Top corner is where it should be. And he has the ability to stick it there.

He made Watkins’ 100th goal is a +. He missed the penalty, anyone can miss a penalty. I’m pleased he got a goal and was involved throughout. However, the number of attacks that fizzled out due to his poor passing or awareness wasn’t great.

He hasn't been that good at cracking them passed the keepers recently in open play. Probably why McGinn gave him the ball to "boost his confidence". Bad decision from the captain though.

Ashley Young did it fabulously a couple of seasons ago for us before chucking the ball to whoever took it

Danny Ings. 4-0 v Brentford. Our manager was Aaron Danks.

If he gets a goal and assist every game I’d take that.

Exactly. If he can ping it into the roof of the net from 20 yards while holding off a defender, he can do it unchallenged from 12.

I think we should just have a penalty rota now, and everyone has to take one when it's their turn.

Or his captain telling him " I/we as a team every faith in you"
tbf it was more a good save than a Rogers miss.

Certainly not a bad decision by the captain

Yep, I wouldn't put it down as a poor penalty, just the sort that if the keeper guesses the right way he saves it, which is true of about half of all penalties I reckon.

I think its fair to say, I would not be confident if any cup match goes to penalties.
