I think his agent would have insisted on a release clause for us to tie him up til the twenty turtees.

I don't see any scenario where he's here in September.

Thankfully there's an only a small pool of clubs that can afford a £100m+ transfer fee, and some of them are currently below us in the league.

Worst case, we should secure a decent fee for him and weirdly I feel Purslow's "sell one, buy three" approach would work better here.  Not sure why but Rogers feels replacable and less talismanic by comparison to Grealish.

I feel the same, perhaps because we're in a better position overall and have had at least a year of relative success under Emery before Rogers was even considered.

I thinks that only because we have lots of really good and important players now rather than just one.

We do. On various podcasts I’ve heard the phrase ‘our best player’ referring to both Kamara and Tielemans recently. And I often think ‘Rogers?’. And sometimes I think ‘Martinez?’

We would've lost that game without Big Emi, for sure I think. He remains a matchwinner.

I think there's a principal difference between 'most talented' and 'most consistent', as well as just the general confirmation bias of what it is to be a good defender and how that can often be disregarded until you have a stinker.

Konsa and Kamara almost never have bad games, but to the untrained eye can appear just to be 'doing a job', whereas when Rogers is on it, he looks like an obvious generational talent that will win games for us single handedly.

Indeed. We undoubtedly have the best pair of keepers in league, and when all fit the best midfield for my money.

I'm a big fan of our current goalkeeping set-up, but I'd say that Donnarumma / Trafford easily beats it. Alisson and the big Georgian with the tricky name probably does too. And maybe the Arsenal pair.

I don't have either of the pair at City as better than our equivalent, Trafford in time but not right now, forgot about the big fucker at Anfield, I do rate him and will not attempt his name, don't know who is the Arsenal back up but they can piss off n'all.

Citeh would be my guess.  Not that they need him in anyway shape or form but just because they can stop anyone else signing him, screw us over and then ruin his career so he ends up somewhere that’s no threat to them.

Kamara for me. Depends on best - most valuable to the team in way we play. Martinez is World Star in his position. Rogers the Star player in the team.

Eons ago (late 90s) I had chat with one of my Dutch mates and asked who was best player for Netherlands and he said Davids - more so than Bergkamp even.

Davids was hardly a water carrier. He was a hell of a player.
