Ironic cheers as Morgan Rogers completes a pass. #avfc

It was very loud, and does not augur well.
I didn’t see it as ironic.
I saw it as the crowd giving encouragement to a player who is suffering an awful drop off in form and confidence.

I think it started as ironic, and many others made an effort to turn it into a genuine cheer.

I heard what I heard, and I agree that is was sarcastic more than ironic.

Konsa's post-match comments would seem to confirm this.

Rogers is a brilliant young player, and he will rebound from this, but supporters are wondering why he is still on the pitch when nothing is going right for him.

It definitely seemed ironic. I have never booed one of our own so I certainly wouldn't ironically cheer either, I don't understand what you are trying to achieve.

Well, I clapped and cheered that particular pass, hoping to encourage the kid, definitely not to be ironic.

Unai Emery says Morgan Rogers "didn't play well" against Bologna but believes he will grow from the experience of facing a frustrated #AVFC crowd.

"Morgan is young and needs time for experiences. I kept him on because I wanted his reaction, how he was accepting everything."

I like this. Emery is keeping him on to fight through this spell. His first real challenge since he came to the club. His rise with us has been meteoric and maybe there is a bit of a levelling off before he hopefully takes off again. He doesn’t need to be punished for being out of form. He needs to be helped through it. He’s more than good enough to come out the other side a better all round player.

Yeah, that's good from Unai. Imagine an interview with Gerrard under similar circumstances.

He would have been doing the cheering.
