I think the point it the ESL teams also want access to local leagues as well and the ESL to replace the CL. So if they do join the ESL, the PL can state "Fuck off then" with no legal comeback. If the said teams decide to voluntarily leave the PL, so fucking what and good riddance.

Yep, it's very much a cake and eat it situation. The likes of Man City love the riches they get in from the Premier League, they just want a lot more for playing other big European teams as well. They don't want to fuck about playing CL group games against league winners from Romania, they want 20 games a year, every year against the like of Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG and Inter.
