Aston Villa v Man City Post-Match Thread

I was there for the 5-1 demolition of LIverpool in 1976.  It was a scintillating display of attacking football against the future champions. However, the big difference is that, at 5-1, the game was over at half time. Yesterday, was a sustained 90 plus minute display in which we were superior to the current European Champions in every aspect of the game.
The amazing thing for me was that I just didn't feel nervous, so assured was our performance.

My heart bleeds for Man City and their injury crisis. Imagine only having a bench with midfielders like Nunes (£53m), Phillips (£42m), Kovacic (£25m) and Gomez (£11m). The humanity!

It was just over a year ago I walked out of Craven Cottage halfway through  the second half. Made my way to Putney tube station utterly demoralised by the effort of our team and Stevie G. By the time I boarded the train at euston Nas had pulled the trigger. Last night was another world in a different universe as far as our team  performance is concerned. Thank you Stevie G, you did it for us.

Means nothing to anyone who doesn't know the area, but I live just down the Beeches side of Walsall Rd, by Tower Hill, maybe two miles from VP, and for the first half I thought it was a huge group of supporters at the Towers pub.

I knew what was them missing a chance, I knew what was us going close, I knew what was us winning a corner, and Leon's goal sent shivers down my spine.

And this is from inside the house, behind double-glazing.

I've never known the noise to carry so well and it was absolutely fucking magnificent.

I was gonna ask you about that after your post earlier. Brilliant stuff.

I've lived in this house since I was 2. I spent two years in Lichfield and six in Worcester, but otherwise this has been my home. I have never heard anything like it.

Whether it was just the wind blowing in the perfect direction or not, it was extraordinary. Credit to all the boys and girls there today.

I used to go on the lam from my ex round there. Dyas Avenue I think it was. You must know it.

I know exactly where the fucker lives Perce, I used to live in Fowlmere Road.*

I tried to reply last night on Dave's post re the 5-1 against the 'The Mighty Reds YNWA'
I think I was pissed and forgot to hit the post button
I was on the Holte that magical night, finished college, travelled in a mates Capri, parked up close to the ground and enjoyed the spectacle.
That season we finished 4th. but we had the league cup odyssey against Everton to live in memory
However we had some crap results on the way
losing twice to the Blues is hard to believe
77 and 78 were my two loving years, but looking at the stats we finished 8th and had average gates of 32,000
Last night was , awe and wonder.
That team and the management that set them up to play, last night was 10 out of 10 for everyone involved
I have been sceptical abought, high line, Konsa as full back
last night I was not nervous at any position we were in on the pitch or any amount of time added on.
Based on last night I am not scared to put my head over the parapet and say,  bring  them on.
This is a special team, with a special manager

Still buzzing after last night. Absolutely perfect performance and a nice clean sheet too. City only played as good as we allowed them. Don’t want to get carried away but we ARE in a title race at this moment in time.

Yep I remember that object display and thinking that players were just not buying into the managers plans (whatever they were)
Polar opposite now with Unai players fully on board with the coaching and revelling in the joy of it

And all been done since Gerrard’s departure with no takeovers or cash injections from state owned wealth funds
Which makes it all the sweeter

No, but I saw it happen. I was picking my brother up from after-school violin lessons at Calshot. The fuckers weren't even trick-or-treating, they were just picking random houses and egging them.

I knew who they were, because one of them had shot me in the face with a pellet gun in Turnberry Park.

I remember as we were the last house on the road, some yoof used to hang out in the alley next to where we lived, i think i had a word about something or other once, maybe it was the egging! Moved up to Boldmere 17 years ago, so long time back, though my in-laws still live not far from the Towers, so over that way a lot.

I said to my mate at half time, 'you know I don't think I've ever seen us play better'. I had by the end of the second half.

The worst kind of cheats they may be but they are still the best side in the world, and we made them look like a newly promoted side, they still had to defend superbly to keep it to just one.

Every one of the player were incredible but Bailey, Kamara and Konsa were out of this world and I don't think I have the vocabulary to describe John McGinns performance. One that I'm sure Ill be talking to my grandkids about as the best performance Ive ever seen at VP, it had everything.

And the old place was truly rocking as only it can.
