Overall it was the best interaction I have ever witnessed with away fans at Villa Park for a long long time. They applauded us at the end and also supported the HT HEITS memories.

I’m more bothered by these upstarts, who TF do they think they are!

“Dreadful performance from the referee, clearly not up to it. Couldn’t handle all the fouling out there and his decisions were totally random at times. Not a good performance today, we looked sluggish at times, we really need to find a way to overcome these teams like Villa, Newcastle, Everton and Forest who play dirty, direct football roared on by a ferocious crowd, we seem to crumble in these type of games.”

😳
Mate in few seasons they will go the way of Southampton. Let them enjoy their day.

I like the ferocious crowd description though

Ooh, it's all so fast and noisy! Ooh...

In the Barton's beforehand they were all saying they wanted us to qualify over Spurs

It's just my suggestion, but perhaps they could start by getting their own ferocious crowd.

What a brilliant day yesterday was.  Really special to be there.

A huge well done to everyone involved in the club - the players, many of who had been written off (including by me), the staff, the fans, and Emery.  Emery feels like the missing piece in the jigsaw and it was great to see him, Wes and Nas walking around at the end.  I love the way that the message coming for Unai was, this is just the start.

So many highlights, but the last 2 minutes of stoppage time, when the whole stadium rose as one to help get the result over the line is something I think I'll never forget.

Other highlights were the pre-match display in the holte, dougie signing to the holte when brigton's first goal was disallowed and the HEITS tribute.

Thought we saw everything about Villa at its best yesterday - and it's been a long time since we could say that.   Just very grateful to have seen it!

I could see a joint singalong going on as they were filing out in the corner, but couldn't hear it. Something about Europe, I assume? It all added to the afternoon.

I remember them complaining after the match at theirs about how noisy our lot were and how much we celebrated. God knows what they expect from football fans.

We were kindly invited into the corporate bit by a Brighton fan and there was no hard feelings or any negativity from them.

I think we piss their fans off because we have that really annoying habit of beating them almost every time we play them. 16 games unbeaten against them I believe. And as Ads said, 1 point in front of us is a hell of a gulf!!
They won at Villa Park for the first time a couple of seasons ago so not sure about 16 unbeaten?

Yeah they beat us at home in the lockdown season

Well there wasn’t a big nasty crowd to frighten their players.

What is it with teams like Brighton who get into the Premier League and immediately think they're important? This attitude of we're really great and clubs like Villa and Everyon with 140-odd years of top-level history are lower than them.

They’ve had so much smoke blown up their arses they believe the publicity….they think the bigger clubs will let them join their £’s party….they won’t, they will pick off their better players (& coach) one by one…just like when Man City built by weakening their direct competitors which at time was us, Everton & Arsenal by taking Milner, Barry, Lescott, Adebayor, Clichy etc

These Brighton keyboard warriors would do well to remember how many points ahead of us they were in October. A full season of Emery would have seen us into the top 6 at least with Brighton firmly in the rear view mirror.

A word about the ref - shit! Brighton players were in his face the whole game, even arguing over throw ins. What happened to bookings over dissent? I don't think Mings should have been booked either.

I can say it now it's done! Their record against us is like ours was against manyoo before the very recent bit. I think it was Risso that braved the jinx by saying they'd never won at ours in front of a crowd. Their covid win was also the only time they've mustered more than one goal against us here. In fact they've only once, ever, home or away, managed to score twice in front of a crowd, and that was at the Goldstone in the Third Division, a period of our history when they chalked up 2 of their mere 4 league wins against us.

They might be tricky opponents on the field, but as for results-wise, can we play them every week?

The big difference for me is that the final whistle had hardly been blown and they were talking about losing players.

We’re talking about who we are going to add and strengthen, they’re talking about who they’re going to lose and hoping they can find someone to fill the gaps. That says everything about where these two clubs are at.

But typically in modern football culture, they really do think they’re beyond us.

I do not wish to disrespect their club and team and the fans but if your club waited till 2020/21 for your first ever win at Villa park than you are not really a thing in English football history. So stick to your now and then purple patches but always remember where you belong.
