Worth remembering that he was half of the best defence across Europe last season and Sevilla have been fighting relegation after losing some of their players.

Would Emery know anything about him or come up against him from his time with other clubs in Europe

Well yes, they were both in spain last year and for clubs that will have seen each other and direct competition.

So would assume with Emery’s attention to detail on the opposition, he probably knows already what he is capable of

He really didn't stand out before his injury, maybe Emery doesn't rate him.

Isn't the most likely explanation just that his possible space in the side is currently taken by the two most in-form centre backs in the league?

Absolutely right Dave, he’s had no chance since getting himself fit. Konsa has turned his season around brilliantly and both our centre backs have become unstoppable since the Arsenal game.

I do agree with the consensus about no need to change a winning defence but Hookey is right to at least have an eye on this. Carlos will want to be playing regular football by the autumn, with all that rust it might be that he has to drop down a level from top-half PL to get it. I don't think we'd come near to re-couping his transfer fee or wages. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go back to Spain on a season-loan. Especially if the much-linked Pau Torres is the one Emery wants, relegating Konsa to back-up.

Probably jumping the gun a bit. He’s had a really severe injury, it’s probably best to leave him to bed in if we can.

Why would he make any changes to a defence currently playing to superhuman levels?

We almost never concede.

He'll have a full pre-season to get rid of any rustiness. His injury wasn't on the level of Wesley's.

I'm sure he'll get an opportunity in pre season to impress and be assessed.

If we make Europe we are going to need him and probably another CB

You need two top class players in each position so I can't see UE offloading Diego Carlos at all. He's a highly rated defender.

Even the distribution is looking good. It's the only area I think Carlos could improve us but right now I'd prefer he has time to be 110% match fit. He'll get minutes between now and the end of the season.

The point was about him not fully warming up before games. He comes out considerably later than all the other players so I made an assumption that they are not fully loading him still

He really didn't stand out before his injury, maybe Emery doesn't rate him.

He played what two matches? Bournemouth was a shocker from everyone and that line up looks incredible now (Mings, Buendia and Watkins all started on the bench) and Everton I think he did o.k against poor team.

I think we're just easing him back in. Perhaps if we were still 11th he'd be getting minutes but to me it's  a case of  not disrupting solid defensive unit especially as european finish could come down to GD.

We'll see Carlos starting plenty in pre season.
