I think we're going to come up short in the transfer window. We always have since we came back up. It would be nice to be proved wrong, but we never seem to go the extra mile like some clubs.

Yep, I’m beginning to think the same
For all the keeping the powder dry it seems to remain dry
I think we’ll be in a similar position to last year.  Thin squad
I'd bite your arm for 7th now ! i think we will finish far lower unless we make some big signings in the next couple of weeks .

The Smirker signing shopping list:

Zaniolo
Laporte
RB
Striker
Backup goalkeeper

3 of the 5 would be nice.
I would be over the moon with 3 of 5

The negativity on here off the back of one result is shocking.

We will finish at least 7th and probably 5th.

Mmm, I reckon somewhere between 7th to 10th. We are way too thin on the ground at the moment. Obviously even worse now. I’d call it realism rather than negative. I wouldn’t be surprised if we chuck ourselves out of the cups (with a weaker team) to focus on the league (and the conference).

Praying for a strong window

Ha, Villa fans. We were so optimistic days ago, one bad result later and we're already out of both cups and hoping for mere top half.

Look. These days tight games between closely matched sides often devolve into a rampage, as the focus on transitions and turnovers and all the rest of it makes getting your nose ahead all the more important. That last half hour was brutal, but even Howe pointed out that the first hour was close - Watkins or Cash score and you don't know what happens.

I'm old enough to remember when Liverpool beat Man Utd, what was it, 7-0?, and managed to finish far below them. Not saying we'll finish ahead of Newcastle, but I don't think it's all doom and gloom because we lost to them, with one goal that should've been ruled out for a foul and one that was bizarrely gifted them by a centreback who never makes such errors, not to mention the destruction of our gameplay wrought by two freak injuries to key established first-teamers in the space of four days. Let's see how we are against Everton.

The injuries, particularly to Mings, was more crushing than the defeat itself.

undoubtedly.
This is where our 'new signing' of Diego Carlos needs to be proven as a masterstroke.

The defeat i can live with - in fact it maybe a wake up call after a pretty confident pre season.

The injuries are a sickener for fans , players and team spirit

I didn’t like the way we caved in because I thought we’d developed into a better team than that. What I am confident in is that under Emery we’ll correct what went wrong and will bring in what we need to. This isn’t Gerrard we have, it’s a top class coach.

Personally, it’s the lack of a decent second GK and Striker (initial concerns)…the loss of Tyrone has taken me over the edge. It’ll be tough to compete on all fronts and we will need to prioritise.

When was this, your youth of the early 90s or last spring? Are you a baby or a fully-fledged (hu)man?

A classic example of an ugly baby with an old man's face is my guess.

We need at least 3 more after Zaniolo for me. Centre half, right back, winger.

Mentions of Murillo of Corinthians. 21 year old left sided centre back. Forest are said to have made an offer for him and Wolves and Napoli interested.
