I think we're going to come up short in the transfer window. We always have since we came back up. It would be nice to be proved wrong, but we never seem to go the extra mile like some clubs.
I think so too.  What usually happens is you get called a bedwetter as there are x days left etc.  Then there's no days left and you get comments "like would you have preferred we got someone like Troy Deeney for the sake of it or wait to get the right player?"  Then it all starts again in the next window.

Sorry, yes. Just the 26 goals in his first season, the rest were for France. Still, for a 20 year old converted winger it was pretty sensational. I guess the thing with him was he had the skill and was stupidly quick. Torres would seem to have the skill, but not the pace. Hopefully he'll come good, but it does worry me that all of Konsa, Torres and Carlos are going to struggle without Mings.

Over the years I’ve heard so many players some who went on to become great players talk about how difficult they found their first few games in the Premier League, It is different from any other league in the world and I think Pau found that out on Saturday

Indeed.

It was only earlier this year that Alex Moreno looked iffy as fuck in his first few matches for us.

Didn't Thierry Henry struggle for a few months when he moved to the Premier League? He turned out to be all right.

He was used mainly as a sub for the first couple of months, but he soon got up to speed. 30+ goals in his first season.

He still took a while to adapt, and didn't score 30+ goals until his 3rd season (which included 7 in Europe).

He was used as a winger to start with as well, after signing for big money from Juventus. The first time i watched him i thought 'meh', he ended up being the best player i've seen in English football in my near 40 years watching. Goals from outside the box, inside the box, pace, control, skill and the ability to just glide past players without them getting near to him.

I must admit when i first saw Tonev play for us i couldn't help but make comparisons.

Yep, I’m beginning to think the same
For all the keeping the powder dry it seems to remain dry

It’s definitely the time to wet that powder.

I suppose it depends on what your expectations are in that regard but if we don't get a new keeper in we will have come up short as far as i'm concerned.

I think if we don't get the two injuries we have done, then maybe another right back and forward would have done I think and they did hint there were more to come in before the injuries happened anyway.

Yes - to be honest I never expected us to spend big.  I just don’t think that’s what we’re going to do.  Since the summer that grealish left - newcastles net spend is over 3 times more than ours.  10 over teams have a higher net spend.

Added to the fact we have lost 2 important regulars I think we’ll be in a similar position to last year.  Thin squad

Yeah, i think a RB, GK and another forward would have done it. I think now, those with the addition of Zaniolo who is an extra body to cover Buendia.

The CB thing i'm not quite so worried about but a short term experienced player wouldn't hurt.

Surely, but surely this isn't the faint pinky-red streaks of Another False Dawn that I can see here....????

I've only  had 40 odd years of practice after all!  :'(

Exactly, we were on track to have had a really good window. Even non Villa fans were saying we'd had one of the best out of any team. Two injuries in two days has completely changed the picture and now, in terms of numbers anyway, we're kind of where we were before the window opened. Or at the very least Diaby is the only extra player we now have if you thing Torres/Mings and Tielemans/Buendia.

Yeah before the injuries I had us a right back and forward away from an excellent window. Now we’ve got two big gaps to fill as well.

True, so I'm not going to rush to judgement on our transfer window 2-3 days after two of our likely starters suffered season ending injuries.

The Smirker signing shopping list:

Zaniolo
Laporte
RB
Striker
Backup goalkeeper

3 of the 5 would be nice.
