I don't accept we're limited by FFP.  I simply don't buy it, we just haven't spent enough.

23/24 - approx £75m
22/23 - approx £40m
21/22 - approx zero net.

I know there's wages etc, but other clubs pay wages too.  We must be miles off any thresholds - we could probably spend another £100m if we wanted to.

I don’t think we are - I also don’t think we’re anywhere near done.

One thing those numbers do highlight is why the status quo clubs are closing all the loopholes they used to get ahead.

Considering how both Chelsea & Villas owners have pretty much the same wealth, we are reduced to scratching around trying to fudge FFP & only spending 10% of what they have.

And they can get away with spending £1b in three years & can comfortably cheat at FFP because they have had success in recent years & are marketed across the world to make money for the Premier League.

You can guarantee that if we cheated with our FFP like they did, the powers that be would make an example of us as a warning to any upstarts who are thinking of challenging the marketing cash cow media favourite status quo elite clubs...

I genuinely despise modern day football & I wish I could walk away from Villa...

A few places reporting Zaniolo is pushing to make the move happen. Seems its Galatasary holding it up, but it's expected to go through.

Read something there about Aaron Ramsey being expected to sign a new deal with us and then move to Burnley. I assume that has something to do with the buy back clause. Apparently that's what's holding things up there. I guess he's agreeing the terms he'll come back on if we activate it.

Over the years I’ve heard so many players some who went on to become great players talk about how difficult they found their first few games in the Premier League, It is different from any other league in the world and I think Pau found that out on Saturday

Indeed.

It was only earlier this year that Alex Moreno looked iffy as fuck in his first few matches for us.

They don't want to send him out on loan with a purchase 'option'.

They brought Zaniolo in as a quick flip & want money for him now.

As for Aaron Ramsey, he cant sign a new deal with us & then then get sold to Burnley.

Well, he can, but that would be utterly pointless.

He either signs a deal with us & goes on loan (my preferred option), or he agree return terms & then gets sold with a buyback clause.

When we were buying Torres a couple of posts said he was quick, but he looked very slow indeed against Newcastle. The high line needs somebody with pace to get back in the times when it's not offside and teams have sprung the trap, and both Torres and Carlos look too slow to do that.

He was clocked doing 34.93km/h in La Liga...

I love a good stat, but these top-speed figures can be SO misleading. The speed you can eventually get up to isn't hugely important in football.  What's far more important is how quickly you can get to your top speed.  How quick you are over 5, 10 or even 20 yards?  I remember when Usain Bolt was trying to be a footballer, and he kept pointing out that he NEVER got the chance in games to really open up, as straight-line speed is very rarely used.  I'm sure he said something like Marcus Rashford would beat him over 20 yards 90% of the time.

The NFL has a "40-yard dash" time they use in the draft, which is FAR more useful than knowing a players top speed. I'd take a player who is lightning over 15 yards but with an average top speed over a Bolt-type player who is like lightning once they get a 30-yard run-up.

I'm hoping Pau will look more dynamic after he gets up to speed with the team and the league, but he doesn't look like he will ever be particularly rapid over 5-10 yards. It looks like his strength will be in avoiding situations where he HAS to be.

Yeah, that's what I thought, the Ramsey thing sounds weird. It's probably the buy back terms that are still being sorted and the reporter has got it confused with a loan deal. Either way, it's still happening, which I was wondering about as it sounded like it was imminent last week.

Someone from Nas's Egyptian club.

Jeremiah St. Juste or Lutsharel Geertruida.

Both pacy, especially St. Juste, both good on the ball & both can play at either CB or RB.

Good call. Sadly, St Juste is injured from a shoulder knock he took last season. He's missed all pre-season and probably won't be back for Sporting until the autumn.

Oxlaid-Chamberlain has signed for Besiktas. If Maguire would just sign for West Ham we could retire all the weird links for this summer.

I suspect the "new deal" Ramsey is signing with us is the one that would be activated if we buy him back.  He's effectively agreeing a deal like any new signing would, only it might never be used. I'm not surprised it's taking a while, as it's probably quite complicated to negotiate a contract for who a player "might" be in two years, rather than who he is today.
