Jao Felix is not the answer to any question we have.
He's not for us.

I don’t think we will sign Felix but it’s Totally opposite for me

I rate all/most players on their technical abilities and Felix is a very good player
If he joined us it would be a gamechanger it would catapult us into top 4 contenders in my view

I agree with this. Theres a lot being a bit precious about who really wants to play for our club. Shock, horror, I’m sure Diaby had hardly heard of Villa and it was the pull of the premier league and working with Emery that got him here and I’m sure there’s part of him who thinks a couple of good seasons and he might bag another move.

Felix or Beundia in that 10 role is a no brainer for me. I like Emi but Felix is a fantastic player and as John said next level. Get him on loan for a year and see what happens next.

Judging players on technical ability alone means that Barkley and Coutinho should both have been brilliant for us.

My comment on Felix was based purely on his effectiveness: I'm do not recall him consistently making significant differences to the outcome of a game, for all his skill.

The idea that he wouldn’t know who Villa were is ridiculous.

I tend to agree with the sentiment in general though.

And overall effectiveness is what I rate players on, with one eye on non football related things like attitude and general personality.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to see players with technical ability, always loved South American football especially Brazil but when I look at ideas for building the team I support I think the overall picture is critical. On technical ability alone Joao Felix would improve us a lot, no doubt but I just don’t see it working out.

I'd also love to know what characteristics mean that someone is or isn't an "Emery player".

Me too.

I think it’s a blanket term that is thrown about a lot.

Types of things I assume are Emery characteristics are;
- Attackers who don’t press hard are not Emery players
- Attackers who don’t work back are not Emery players
- Defenders who look to retain and pass the ball are Emery players
- Goalkeepers who pass the ball are Emery players (obv we have a massive outlier here on the bench)

Etc etc

Not sure it’s that black and white though…

My wild stab is a player who fits well into the style of play he wants to implement and with an attitude and work ethic Emery he is happy with.

Other than possibly attitude, I'm not sure where Felix falls down.  That's not to say I think we should be blowing our budget on him mind.

I am getting board with this argument.

Emery came in and took a team where at least half the individuals in it had been written off after long periods of very poor form. Watkins, Mings, McGinn, Cash etc. I therefore think the only attribute that would rule a player out from Emery's system would be effort, or lack of it.

That’s fair enough mate
It’s all about opinions, you look at him and don’t think he would be effective for us. I look at him and think he would take us to the next level. That’s the great thing about football everyone sees it differently.

I think he would make a huge difference, as I believe he is a class act
Like others have said Emery would also get the best out of him, the attitude thing is a valid point as well we won’t know about that really because we don’t know the lad

I don’t think we’ve got much chance of signing him so we will never find out and all my points are moot
