What, is Henderson some revolutionary Hanbali jurisprudence reformer?
Nope just a footballer who has been outspoken on LGTBQ rights who has then taken loads of money to live in a country where they execute people for being homosexual, nothing more or less, think he’s a hypocrite or don’t?

It's a reference to the bizarre suggestion that he's going out there "to change things" which was dished out as an excuse for him yesterday

It's the same mental gymnastics Newcastle fans do when their ownership is questioned.  It's unpalatable to give an honest appraisal of something that you really like doing, like for fans supporting a team you have all your life, and players picking up vast sums of money.

The whole thing is pretty grotty.

I also bet playing for fucking Al-Jarreau or whatever they're called turns out to be no obstacle to getting picked every time by Southgate, either.

Just to drop in a small piece of trivia, former Southampton and Juventus winger Eljero Elia was so named because his parents were big Al Jarreau fans.

That’s the thing. The Saudi league only becomes relevant if the media pander to the galactico footballers.

They need/want a return on their investment but if no-one is interested in “Ronaldo” it will eventually collapse.

They don't need a return on their investment to be honest and they could easily see sports-washing / seat at the table in a new European League etc. etc. as their ROI, rather than specifically a cash return
True, they are playing a long game backed up with trillions of $ and decades away from zero oil.

Both responses suggest that some sort return is anticipated weather status or just a long way in the future. Ignore the whole league and let it live in a vacuum, without media attention, and neither of those returns are realistic.

Well, it will be interesting if he does talk about it in interviews over there or use his position to highlight intolerance and call for change. Being seen to promote or encourage it is also frowned upon and can be dealt with harshly.

With these footballers going over there and taking families, I do wonder about the impact it might have on their kids. I mean they could be taking along a child who already knows they're gay and putting them in that environment without knowing it. It can be hard enough on a kid in this country, let alone somewhere like that.

A lot of them will be living outside Saudi, by all accounts.

While Bahrain has decriminalised homosexuality, there is no protection against discrimination by law, and it is still penalised under laws to prevent indecency and immorality.

There are a group of Newcastle fans who are against the ownership. Minority but they are constantly protesting. I wonder how we would have reacted if it had been us.

I know, I dread to think. I don't envy them at all. I honestly don't know what I would do.

I have a gay mate who is a Newcastle fan. We don't talk about football anymore.

The chap in K4 who shouted 'faggots' at the Brighton players when they scored last season would be delighted, though.

Suspect it would have been very similar, majority would ride the wave of doing better & some would protest.  Had they taken over and still hovered around bottom 6 the dissenting voices would have been louder.

As for Henderson, there is no way he is going there to change things…if he speaks out he’ll either find himself booted out, in a box or mysteriously disappearing

Danjuma's finally off to Everton it seems.

It's definitely curious, considering how good he was under Emery that we seem to have no interest at all. Given it would be no risk and in a position where we have plenty of room for extra bodies.

I was thinking the same the other day. It's not like you can just give up your club.

Depends on whether they would have gone full steam ahead with the new round badge.

They've probably got some equivalent nut boring the shit out of everyone about that comedy 'NUFC' badge squashed into a ball they had in the 80's

Suggestion that it's Diaby and Doku we're after, rather than either or.
