I'd like Gnonto for the simple reason that you could probably (unless I'm wildly off base with the pronunciation) sing his name to the tune of "Macho, Macho man.....," or, to be a little more niche, to the tune of "Take her up to Monto, Monto, Monto, take her up to Monto, langeroo, to you."

Put more water in it.

I know it's been political and off-topic, but have read the last few pages with a lot of interest!

Ashtonvilla, is it that you think there are too many 'sub-par' teachers in the system to justify improving pay and conditions for all? And for those that are motivated, hard working and competent (curious to know ballpark, what percentage of the profession you think that might be), do you think pay and working conditions are reasonable?

Do you think improving pay and conditions might a) attract more people to the job, improving the pool of potential candidates schools can select from and b) improve the performance of more teachers if they are motivated and resourced to do their jobs better?

Genuinely curious about your thinking on this, and what you see as the solutions to improving schools.

Not going to ruin the thread, but yes. I will set up a thread in off topic and answer this when I get chance. Sorry for not responding sooner but been really busy.

I was about to check Urban Dictionary to see what 'taking her up the monto' was slang for.

Yes; North East Dublin.

James Joyce would be your main man to wax eloquent and byzantine.

Florida is hardly a beacon of hope for the lgbtq+ community, or people of colour. A number of organisations have issued travel warnings for the state, so while they're not at the level of Saudi Arabia, it is a fair comparison.

That's funny because Florida quite literally WAS the beacon of hope to all the Cuban refugees that escaped the wonderful, loving and caring utopian Castro regime. Unless of course you don't consider Cubans to be "people of color"  ::)

The yanks had been pillaging the country with their puppet dictator for decades, but you go with your Hollywood story

What.. they had a transfer embargo for the second half of the 1900s and the US just starting normalizing relations within the last 10 or so years under Obama. Americans can travel there, not as tourists, after jumping through hoops. Puppet dictator Castro.. for Russia..?

LeeB is referring to Batista. I don't think anyone will dispute he was a U.S. puppet dictator from '52 onwards.

Well neither are fit to lace Kafka’s boots, but most overrated of all time? Come on, you not read John Updike?

Does anyone rate him? Worst book I ever read was Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry though.

Not having a good morning, BA wouldn’t check my bags through to Perth and no chance I can make the connection. Trying to get a different flight, but it would be the first flight I take the family on.

Signing would cheer me up.

Yep.

The song is by The Dubliners, probably lots of other versions too.

I'm hearing "Give the ball to Gnonto, Gnonto, Gnonto. Give the ball to Gnonto, he'll score two, on you"
