Coopers Injury?

Blimey, that’s a name from the past. Wasn’t he a right misery, up there with Gregnash?

The one I will always remember is the meltdown after Villa lost to Birmingham City in 2002/2003.

I was an English teacher to the hilltribes in Thailand at that time, and my only access to the internet was via a dial up connection in the “local” post office. It was still a 40 minute moped ride away from where I was living in the middle of the Jungle…

Anyway, I logged into here to find out the score, only to find the place in absolute total meltdown.

I honestly can't see the point in selling Digne. Moreno's injured and even when he's not, we could potentially be playing 50+ games this season. If we're going to buy another left back, a decent one who's not going to be a big drop off in quality is going to be £20m+ and c. £100K in wages anyway.

Agree, unless someone like Tierney is on the way. All seems a bit to the left with just Matty Cash on the right. Anyway, I reckon we’ll splurge loads on Diaby and Johnson then roll in some old git like Heaton or drag the 50 year Pepe Reina back from Spain as number 2 between the sticks and that will be that in terms of signings.

In two minds about Digne.

I like that when he comes on for Moreno (a tactic Emery was quite keen to utilise) we didn't have a massive drop off in quality.

But for the second or third highest paid player at the club we need more than that. If Forest or whoever post anything north of £20 million (most of what we paid, in other words) and take on all his wages there's a decision to be had.

If it's just a club scrambling about in the dirt looking to pick him up on a loan or for next to nowt I don't see how it helps us.

I like Digne, he’s a very good player. I didn’t realise he was on that much money. I’d be surprised if we sold him and didn’t have someone lined up. Our full backs seem quite essential to the way Emery wants to play.

I was wondering that. We're The Villa, are there any other clubs that are 'The' whatever (where it's not part of the actual name, e.g. The New Saints/TNS)? Can't think of any...

Dundalk supporters refer to their team as 'the Town'.

Agree with much of this. I thought it was reported when he signed that he was on 120k a week, which is still a lot but not quite 150k*.

*FWIW some sports salary sites say 120k a week, others 150-160k.

Aaah, the old "ooh the transfer thread has added 3 pages quickly" excitement, only to realise it's a debate about who is United.

That's why I love this place so much!!

We're definitely not united. Or United.

Is anybody The United?

You hear 'the Arsenal' sometimes.

This is where capitalism becomes bollocks. Footballers should not earn more than oncologists. Most footballers would earn a max of £40,000 a year in any other job they are capable of, never mind 150k a fucking week. Lets pay Doctors and other fucking seriously valuable people a bit more and say to these fucking prima donnas. get more than £40,000 a year being a plumber if you want and play non league for fun. We rightly moan about what the Saudi murderers are doing but don't really care that we all contribute to a wholly amoral industry that feeds off the need of the working (wo)man to get respite from their fucking powerless existence in a world run by public schoolboys, tyrants and bankers. Only because we allow the media to manipulate us do these talented but ultimately valueless individuals become 'worth' these obscene sums. Fucking doctors and nurses are striking for a yearly increase that is a fraction of what these fuckers earn in a week. Did my grandad enjoy football any less because footballers got the bus to matches, went to the pub after a match and the chips on the bus on the way home? No, it was still the highlight of his week and loved Villa (actually Notts County as he was from Nottingham, but you get the point. Or not.)

Obviously, this is all King Canute thinking but for fuck's sake, where has perspective gone.

And for what it's worth no club whose name ends in United has the right to be known outside their own city/town as 'United' but I do think Nottingham Forest can be called Forest in the same way as we can be called Villa.

I have partaken of alcohol.

Absolutely.

We are a society that values someone who can kick a ball infinitely more than we value a paramedic who will save our lives, or a firefighter who risks their life to save ours.

Spurs do that horrible slow "Oh when the Spurs..." song.
