Dialby is an exciting link.  But he’s 5ft 6 and we’re probably already the smallest team in the PL.  if Torres plays ahead of Mings we’d lose a lot of power there too.  Are we going to get bullied?

I did wonder if the lad at Milan is partly being looked at to get a bit of height into the side.

A few people on here was keen on Gnoto , yet he is 2 ft 5

Digne is a bit shit for £150k a week. We could do worse, but I think we will do better

He's very average really. Tidy left foot on the ball but just about meh in everything else.

Scored a nice free kick against Utd though.

I think that's what the wall did.

Digne's fine - but for me, he wasn't enough of an upgrade on Targett to warrant the money we spent.  Particularly as we haven't exactly been throwing cash around the last few windows.

Compared to the new left back - who was very reasonably priced and gives us another dimension - it shows where our transfer policy has failed in recent years.

Would make sense ‘if’ the story earlier in summer about Tammy was true…looking for a striker with a bit of height

Tammy is a definite asset both attacking and defending set pieces.  I haven't seen enough of the AC Milan fella, but just being that height alone doesn't mean he's useful in the air.

We've had more than one 6ft + merchant who was shite at that side of things. Even some center halves, worryingly.

It's worth consideration, how we get more height into the side. But not reason enough to ignore a player of Diaby's profile.  Any three from Carlos, Torres, Mings and Konsa @ the back plus Kamara in midfield and Watkins up top indicates we're not desperately short of height.

It's not as if Martinez is a Shay Given-type penalty box keeper either.  He's quite happy to clean his own centre backs out as well as opposing forwards to get to the ball. So defending set pieces isn't quite the terrorfest it used to be.

Aaah, the old "ooh the transfer thread has added 3 pages quickly" excitement, only to realise it's a debate about who is United.

That's why I love this place so much!!

We're definitely not united. Or United.

Is anybody The United?
I was wondering that. We're The Villa, are there any other clubs that are 'The' whatever (where it's not part of the actual name, e.g. The New Saints/TNS)? Can't think of any...

Apparently there’s a Saudi club who want Diaby as well.

I'll have you know I'm neither left wing (happily!) or forty something (sadly!). :)

But yes, if meandering off topic isn't for you, then VT is probably the place, where even mentioning a player different to the one the topic is about leads to threats of deletions, bans and red text everywhere.

I came for transfer news and ended up agreeing with every word of this post.

If we are actually after him, his decision will show me the kind of man he is.

I do think we get Diaby, I dont think he is interested going to SA as a promising 24 year old. I dont think we are that interested i Brennan; might be seen as too expensive for one that have one promising season in the PL. I dont think Emery is interested in loosing Digne; he want two able players in each position and we have that at LB at the moment but it might be that Digne are not interested in sitting on the bench when Moreno is back.

What I know is that seemingly Villa aren’t far away from an agreement with Leverkusen. In the words of my source, €5 million will probably do it.

I am hopeful this will go through in the next few days.

Saudi interest… aren’t the rumoured club embargoed from registering new players presently due to unpaid wages?
