Would be funny if the reason Pau Torres' signing was allowed to run on so long was so we can announce 2 Torres at the same time.

Torres seems a popular Spanish name and we're after two. Could be very confusing given we've had two Traores which still has me stopping to think which one even though one is no longer with us.

They both seem to play with their first names on their jersey. Is that allowed in the Prem? We could have 2 Torreseses but technically no Torreseses.

And not forgetting the time we had two Djembas

Thankfully neither are still with us

Looks like it.

Players/clubs can apply to use their first name or other nickname on the backs of shirts, eg Dele Alli and Virgil van Dyke and our own Wesley use their first names, Aguero had nickname Kun Aguero etc. And of course there are Brazilian players for whom it's just normally common sense as their full surnames wouldn't fit.

And apt if it happened in Birmingham where Tolkien grew up.

That has a nice ring to it.

Oh Lord...

That would actually be brilliant. All of this is great.

Also don't want to alarm anyone but the new season starts in 34 days. We've so far brought in a free transfer.

Very slow this year.

Unai Emery , Aston Villa manager , has given a direct order to Monchi , the Birmingham club's new sporting director. He wants Franck Kessié in the squad, as he believes that the Ivorian would be a key player, providing very interesting consistency in midfield and attacking from behind. Aston Villa, then, has already started talks with Barça, who want to transfer Kessié, but who have not the slightest intention of giving him away, and even less to a Premier League in which very high amounts are being paid.

In the first contact, Aston Villa has put 20 million euros on the table , a figure far removed from Barça's claims, which does not intend to sell the midfielder for less than 30 million euros . The negotiations, however, are open, so there are many numbers that Kessié ends up playing under the orders of Unai Emery.
Kessie, near Aston Villa

And it seems that Kessié's environment has managed to convince him to change his scene. The Ivorian was convinced to continue, considering that he had not had enough opportunities to demonstrate his quality. Xavi Hernández , however, told him that he did not count on him, which was followed by rumors about his departure. Kessié's communication agency responded with a forceful statement in which he denied that the Ivorian was leaving Barça just one season after his arrival, but at the same time, his representative was hunted in Barcelona to discuss the future of the player .
Finally, Kessié saw that there was nothing to do and that if she wanted to be important, she had to change scenery. He received a big offer from Saudi Arabia , but he wants to stay in the elite. After playing in Italy and Spain, he is now motivated to try the Premier League, so Aston Villa's offer already suits him. The Ivorian would prefer to go to one of the greats, although the Aston Villa project is very interesting.

Ferran Torres, also on the Aston Villa agenda
Kessié is not the only Barça player that Aston Villa is interested in, since in England they assure that Monchi has also put the name of Ferran Torres on the table , another player who does not enter into Xavi Hernández's plans . The Valencian, like Kessié, wanted to continue at Barça, but little by little he has been assimilating that he has no place in the Blaugrana squad.

The big problem in the case of Ferran Torres is the price of the transfer, since Barça wants to recover the heavy investment it made a year and a half ago. The Blaugrana club does not intend to accept less than 35 million euros for Ferran Torres, a figure that Aston Villa, at first, does not intend to assume.

Just spotted in something called elnational.cat over here in Spain

WHERE ARE THE F*CKING SIGNINGS / REDUCTIONS

"Going big this close season"

"The board are backing Emery"

"Villa ready to splash the cash"

"Monster Monchi to be a game changer"

We play Walsall on Saturday FFS and in the States for our main pre season a week later

I wonder if hiring Monchi when we did is acting to slow things down?

Something I read last week sort of implied he wasn't actually starting work until this week, in line with when the players come back in. I guess that could make sense in terms of players who aren't out of contract/relegated.

It's clear that we haven't made a signing because we intended to sell JJ to Liverpool to fund transfers and now we can't.

Guess we've had to change direction and sell Martinez to Man Utd instead.

Probably easier to replace than Luiz going to Arsenal. Eitherway we need more funds in for free transfer wages.

"Going big this close season"

Probably just meant the new reserve keeper will be 6 foot 9
