"Going big this close season"

Probably just meant the new reserve keeper will be 6 foot 9

Kalinic is coming back?

Look, its fine.

Its just with Heck and Monchi starting it takes a while for them to get up to spe4d.  Think of all the stuff they have to go through:
1) Read that Health and Safety sign we were told at school all employers must have
2) Read all the company policies, and Purslow handover notes
3) Wait for IT to get Purslows laptop back, and set it up for Monchi
4) Be introduced to all of the staff
5) Wait for IT to set them up with an @astonvilla.co.uk email address
6) Have HR give them there key fob
7) Be shown how to use the coffee machine

Once there through all that well be flying

There really aren't many signings across the division yet, and I think we've made one of the better ones. There's plenty of time to go, we're 26 days in, with 52 days left.

Whilst I agree with you in this instance, I think it's reasonable to point out that this place was littered with these types of posts in January.  And last summer.

Ok so, we're 1/3 of the way through with 1 player in and zero spend. So if the same trend continues till the window slams shut, we'll have 3 new players with zero spend.

Yep, I agree there were, I guess it's just that we've got one, are about to announce another (he's on honeymoon remember), and seemingly have various irons in the fire.

Brennan Johnson,
Tyler Adams
Gnonto
Torres F
Diaby
Tierney
Chiesa
etc. have all been discussed today

I know.  But then there were lots of links last summer and in Jan too.  I actually think we'll have a decent window.  But if we don't it won't be the first window I've been disappointed.

Indeed.

As long as we're ready to go by the time the season starts, it doesn't matter too much when the players come in I suppose. But given how small our squad is, especially up front, I had sort of hoped we'd be further along by now. By all accounts we were saving ourselves for this summer rather than "just buying anybody" in January, but we don't seem to be as advanced as we could be given that. The new season starts in a month, and while the window doesn't shut until three weeks after, ideally we'd want people in and settled, having had at least some time pre-season with Emery and the rest of the squad. Else it becomes another round of excuse-making and "let's see what happens in January" all over again.

Yeah, there really can't be any excuses for us to be without the necessary incomings by the end of the window.

The day when "It's still early in the window" becomes "We'll make a big push next time" is rapidly approaching.

I wonder if the Saudi Arabia thing is making in a difference in that players are now considering moves there that wouldn’t have done a few months ago, so the ‘transfer merry go round’ isn’t happening as expected?

I do think though, that there'd be no point them bringing Monchi in if he's just going to sit on his hands for the summer.

Some thought we'd lost an opportunity in January by not buying players we didn't need or want. They said, come the end of the season it will cost us.

The club should have learned a lesson but from the lack of transfer activity obviously they haven't.

Personally I have the utmost confidence that Emery knows what he wants & won't just buy any tat.

We were pretty lucky with injuries and although we did incredibly well we'll never know if it did cost us.  We were 1 point off 6th after all.  Equally, I accept there's an argument that a signing might have actually had a negative impact on the points total.
