Yeah, it certainly doesn't hurt our profile to potential recruits

Looking at the FIFA international rankings, we now have players in and around the squads of five of the top seven teams. If Luiz keeps progressing, you can imagine he could make it six.

We're definitely raising our profile.

Having Martinez is obviously amazing, but I'm not sure how many outfield players think, "oh, I really want to play alongside that goalkeeper", at least not in the same way they might look at a midfielder or striker in that way. So to be adding that kind of player in several positions does feel like a really positive step.

I’m in no way knocking the signing of Pau Torres but in my mind it’s not one that would make other players think, fuck me I want to join Villa now.

Really? A top current Spanish international defender in his prime?

Maybe I’ve not been taking notice but he’s not been a mainstay of the Spanish defence has he, was he injured for the recent Nations League games? Emery knows him and has worked to great success with him before so that’s great and all that really matters.

I mean, there's still a level of player that are just never going to look at us in this window, or any window, if we can't deliver at least Europa League consistently, and actually be in the mix for Cups. Jude Bellingham was never going to turn down Madrid to come here and play with Pau Torres.

But there's a level of player that might not be attracting attention from the "big" clubs, and maybe we're in the mix with a few teams that at first glance seem like more attractive options. But maybe Torres coming this window is the kind of player that might make some of them take a second look at us.

Obviously it depends on player motivation and some of them will just want Champions League now with an eye on getting another, bigger move in a season or 2, and I don't think any signing we make could change that kind of outlook.

Torres, Moreno, Kamara, Martinez, and Coutinho are all players, for one reason or another, who will be attractive to other players and will show our shrewdness and ambition.

They are all very technical players, with a profile that other professionals will respect. With Emery, and Monchi doing their thing, and us getting Conference football, as well as heading up the table, it looks good.

Maybe - now - that could be Coutinho?

Nah, probably not.

But do you know a lot about him? Not a criticism, as im not expert, but seems to me Bayern were interested and Emery loves, suggests he’s a top player. We weren’t signing players like Torres and Tielemans a year ago, so signing players we couldnt before is bound to get noticed, by yet more players.

I wasn’t aware of him being linked to Bayern or Juve as was previously mentioned, not sure why he never moved to a bigger club than Villareal before now. I don’t disagree that the calibre of our signings is greatly improving and it bodes well for the forward positions that need competition.
