Konsa relies heavily on Mings when it comes to passing out from the back so I can see Emery seeking a player that’s more comfortable on the ball.

Diego had a run-about at Wolves briefly but didn't feature again and wasn't even on the bench the last game or two.

Missing a year of football at his age is really tough, so I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst.
He was on the Bench v Spurs,

But then nowhere to be seen last two matches. Probably nothing in it, but just thought it was a bit odd at the time.

And then wasn't part of the squads at Anfield or for the last game with Brighton.

Didn't Carlos come back from his injury, feature in a match, and then not even show on the bench for the last couple of games?

I may have imagined that bench bit.

Basically. Based on not much more than this I think he's essentially fucked, and won't be back properly.
He was on the bench v Spurs.

I understood that with his type of injury there is a fairly high chance of it recurring if not managed properly. So we will see what happens in pre-season and if he gets a few 90 minutes then.

How do other top clubs manage it?
By going deep into the Champions League and cups for a start.

And outside of Man City & Chelsea, how many other clubs do actually manage it?

So how are we meant to go deep in cups & qualify for Champs League without quality depth?

Maybe we act like a big club & give games to the backup CB's when others are injured, suspended, low on form, in the cups, in the Conference League?

Nobody is saying we need 4 CBs like Baresi, Beckenbaur, Kohler & Costacurta on the books all at once.

But I think we are at the stage in our development where players like Konsa & Mings have to take a step back to stay at the club.

Maybe not both, but one of them does.

Especially if we are going to be playing out from the back as while they have done a sterling job, it is not their natural game & there are far better CBs out there who do it more naturally.

Wonder if The Donk will be moved on if Tielemans does sign?

Imagine Luton will sign Nakamba.

Baresi would agree.

They were not the greatest at it initially which is to be expected as it's a new concept to their game.  Both have massively improved at it over time with coaching. Another CB would be good (Not Maguire though) as I think Carlos has an air of Ivo Stas about him.

I thought Cannavaro was a bit better than Costacurta as well but i'm probably just being picky.

It doesn’t matter if McGrath is there :-)

Re: Carlos missing the Liverpool/Brighton games, Emery did say that he had picked up a knock. Nothing serious, just meant missing the last 2 games.

I am convinced Baresi and Costacurta is the greatest centreback pairing in the history of the game. With the addition of Maldini and Tassotti you have the greatest back four ever.

Maldini's probably the best left back (when full-backs were first and foremost defenders). Even though he was naturally right footed and put a lot of time into developing his left.
