Why are people trying to sell our captain? As for his goals record, unlike with Scotland his position isn’t about getting into the box all the time, last 3 months he has embraced Emery’s tactics more than anyone and has been absolutely excellent - totally not on the sales list for me.
For a lot of those games in the EPL he has been played as a holding midfielder in a struggling side - no wonder he didn’t score many goals.

I said £20m a few months ago and it got laughed at. I know he wasn't playing great but £20m seems to be the starting price nowadays.

You shouldn't have done. 30m would be great. Good form isn't enough, has he shown he is more than a 30m player since we've been in the PL? I don't think he has.

A year ago, I imagine most fans wouldn't have been TOO unhappy to see McGinn go for £30m. He seemed like he'd plateaued, and was maybe even going backwards under Gerrard.

Well, I think we've all learned what a quality coach can do with an intelligent player who is willing to learn and commit to their methods.  McGinn has been excellent of late, maybe not as consistent as we'd like, but we're still a work in progress so that's to be expected.  He has shown he can step up and play a dominant role in a team playing the Emery way.  I'd be stunned if we entertained any offers for him.

There are about fifteen players I'd rather see leaving through the front door before we get to the current iteration of SJM!  Let's get some competition for him, sure, but let him go? Not a chance.

Absolutely no way I'd sell McGinn. He's been class this calendar year. As well as his excellent drive, energy and skill, I'm fairly sure he is a key positive influence among the squad. He also has the ability to perform specific roles, like he did on Dan Burn and also Kane. Doesn't mean he should be a definite starter, but we should certainly not be looking to sell him.

Fantastic squad player. Don’t sell him unless it’s a ridiculous fee or a great swap. He has been excellent the second half of this season. We need reliable players within the squad and he is just that.

It's Dendoncker we need to be upgrading.  We should be able to rotate 4 quality central midfielders, especially if we're intending to compete on multiple fronts.

The real priority though is attack - upgrading Bailey/Buendia/Traore/Coutinho.  The bulk of our budget should be spent here.  Eze and/or Asensio would be incredible business. Try to include Archer in the rotation/European games if we get there.

Then maybe a right back if Emery doesn't like Cash.  It's a shame Kyle Walker is back in favour at Man City, as he'd have been an ambitious pick-up.

Then another central midfielder as above.

And a reserve goalie to replace bombscare Olsen.

To fill out the squad we shouldn't have to send as many out on loan - have Archer and Aaron Ramsey back in the fold as rotation/bench/Europe options.

The Donk was such a strange buy.

I think Donk has done enough to justify his signing, he's had a couple of bad games but in general has been a solid and dependable option when Kamara or Luiz have been unavailable or needing a rest. We probably do need better if we want to be rotating but he's proven worth his fee, especially given we'll get most of back if we move him on.  That said I'd be ok keeping him as 4th choice for another season becaues I think he's a decent option covering in defence as well.

McGinn has been superb since he came back from injury and has been playing in a position that really suits him.

It's a no from me as well, he's reasonably tidy but there's no chance he's getting into our team ahead of Luiz or Kamara, I'd prefer any new signings to be at least challenging to start in our best team.

More broadly, and I know it's not entirely fair, but most teams that get relegated do so because they lose the midfield battle, I'd not want a centre mid from any of the teams down the bottom, same reason I'd dodge JWP as well.

Roy Keane did ok at Forest back in the day. There is plenty of good players in poor teams, put them in the right environment and they can thrive. Our disgrace of a team that went down had likes of Gueye, Veretout, Grealish, Ayew...all did well afterwards. We also had likes of Gabby and Richards who didn't.

I don't think JWP is good enough for us, Douglas Luiz is far superior (3 yrs younger) and he would be too expensive as a backup. JWP will get a PL gig elsewhere though. I like Adams, good player and we need cover there. Better fit for us than JWP. Kamara has missed a lot of football this season. Don't think the Donk has really done enough to suggest he will be anywhere near pushing Kamara or Luiz.

Barnes would be a good buy.

We’d have to hold and give, and bid at the right time.
