I personally don’t think we’ll be majorly splashing out this summer. I think it’ll be 3 or 4 targeted signings, probably some less known, some more so. I don’t think we’ll be shopping in the markets for the likes of Abraham who would likely command a huge fee.

I'd certainly hope that if we are spending £80m or so on a player, it's on someone that is better than Abraham, given that's what he'd cost.

Very good player though he is.

I’ve never quite seen it with Tammy. I’ve always thought he was ok. Not necessarily much better than Ollie. And yes, I think it would be a figure in and around that amount myself.

Italy has turned him into a far better player than the one we had though.

Of course but Italian football is now at a lower level than the premier league.

I think Abraham would be a joy under the guidance of Emery. Abraham always had a really good attitude and I think he'd thrive here.

So is every league. Sorting the Kamaras from the Baileys is probably the hardest job for a club in our position.

Tammy Abraham is also only 25. Loads of time and room to improve. But he will have learned and matured rom playing abroad and European competition and under the guidance of one of the most successful managers of the past 20 years. To think a player of his calibre is someone we should turn our noses up at if the price is somewhat reasonable is ludicrous.

I always thought of Tammy the same as I did Darren Bent. Great to put away decently made chances but for most of the 90 minutes he is not scoring its like playing with 10 men.
His link up play and defending from the front is non existant

I have to admit, I'll be more than a little underwhelmed if Tammy is this summer's big striker signing but 'In Unai We Trust'.

Would Tammy really cost £80 million? It’s not as if he’s lit up Serie A.
Plus judging by the amount of rumours appearing about him, I have a feeling it’s Roma wanting him out the door and planting stories.

If we are really after Tammy, I doubt we would be hearing about it in early-May. It's not how we've done business of late.

Tammy v Watkins is probably a draw so it’s a waste of £50-60m.  The money is better spent on a second striker/right winger to replace Bailey, then the money would have a greater impact.

On that note, what news have i missed where Felix is definitely not going to join Chelsea this summer?

Can see Raphinha being a target if Barca's sporting director is coming to us.

Was quality at Leeds, 11 prem goals for them last season. Done alright at Barca but their financial state means they'll move him on if they get a decent bid.

Barca's sporting director is coming to us? Is this true? I thought the bloke coming over was from Sociedad or sutin.

Edit: I'm just seeing this all over the Emery thread.

It’s a risk factor. So even though Tammy did a job for Chelsea and obviously has some premier league experience, flourishing in Italy isn’t necessarily a huge indicator in the way it would have been 20 odd years ago. There’s no guarantees as history has shown but for a club our size in terms of what we can spend, I personally would look elsewhere as we get less room to f*ck up.

This is usually very reliable for Barcelona news

The thing is (and as Everton have shown) because of what we can spend under FFP, we get less room to make it count with big signings. We’re at the stage of trying to push regularly for top 6. We’re operating in a smaller pool for players rather than doing what we did in year one when we got back up. It’s relevant to consider spending a load on Tammy. I personally think he’s a perfectly decent premier league striker. But I’d rather us buy a wide player who can get 10 to 12 goals a season and offer a threat from that area of the pitch. I just don’t see Tammy as being significantly better than Ollie.

I reckon the striker Emery wants (and he has already said he wants another one) will be someone he knows from Spain. I like Tammy, he's scored goals wherever he has been but I can't see it being him.
