Depends. If Emery coveted him at Arsenal, maybe he still does. I think Zaha will feel he's too good for us anyway.

He'll be free, too, don't forget.

The Story is that when he was at Arsenal, Emery pushed the club to sign Zaha and instead, they chose to sign Nicolas Pépé.

Brennan Johnson might be a good fit in the summer.  Would come in as second choice to Watkins, but would challenge him as well.  Could also offer the option of playing out wide as well.

Zaha is on the decline and as a free agent, his wages would be enormous. One to avoid, useful player though he can be.

Cant say I was in any way impressed with him last week, I’d prefer to promote one of the kids.

I thought our pay ceiling was £120k/week but I saw something that said we're paying £160k/week (madness). Either way, I don't see us smashing our pay structure to bring Zaha in on a free.

If we qualify for Europe it would say to Zaha (or a player of similar age) that we are on the move now as a club.

Not some distant point in the next few years.

Without that, I don't see it.

160k a week is obscene, but when the likes of City and United are touted as paying three times that for a player, you'll have to accept a rocketing wage bill is part of the price for greater success.

I think Johnson looks tremendously talented. I think playing in a team that came to park the bus probably didn’t help.

He definitely looks talented, and his scoring record in the Championship was about the same as Archer's across his PNE and boro loans.  He's scoring goals in the Prem, in a struggling team, and that will be worth serious money - but I'd like to see if Cam can do that before we spend big money again on someone potentially very similar in age and ability.

If Forest go down, he will have plenty of suitors.

No, but Fulham fans will say Watkins was shit at Craven Cottage when we lost 3-0. They'd still bite our hands off at £40m for him (if they could afford to. When are they gonna finish work on that new stand? It's taking longer than the one behind the goal at the Bernabeu with the tarpaulin over it. Honestly, you can't get the personnel these days...).

Going through premier teams and off the top of my head from the bottom up and with players that would instantly improve our first team

Southampton -  I have always thought that JWP was a one trick pony so no one else springs to mind

Leicester - Harvey Barnes would be an upgrade on Bailey - although consistency would likely to have to improve

Forest - Henderson would be a better back up keeper

Leeds - i feel Harrison would fit in on RH wide position - although expensive as just signed new contract

Wet Spam - Bowen is a no brainer and would be fabulous for us in Baileys position

Fulham- maybe a shout for Pereria

Brentford - if Watkins was not on fire i would be seriously want us to take Toney - looks a great goal scorer and a bit horrible to go with it

So 1st choice would be Bowen followed by Barnes

£150k/week for 3 years is £23.4m.  We've spent more then that on players and still had to pay them.

I want us to do whatever Brighton are doing. Signing some brilliant players, many not well known and having them perform at a high level before selling them for a massive profit. We may want to hang on to one or two given our long term objectives but buying ready-made players at exorbitant prices isn’t sustainable.
