Physio and rehab on knee injuries is now light years ahead of where it was even twenty years ago.  Plus the rigorous checks made in modern medicals.  I doubt we'd sign anyone we didn't think could stand up to it physically.

I do sometimes wonder what might have happened to Gary Shaw had he had access to the sort of knee specialists in the game today.  And to a lesser extent, Gazza.
It certainly is.  But equally, Wesley.  And Carlos.

First world problem, but the window shutting the day after clubs discover whether they might have 10-15 extra games to play is bloody ridiculous.

Apart from a sudden serious injury to a key player, the squad for the Prem and the Squad for Euro competition is pretty much the same as similar rules apply. So unless we are hoping to only buy players to play in Europe / League, and not both, then it won't be an issue.

#ssn shortly for an exclusive interview with #avfc transfer guru Monchi, who tells me in his first English interview he is working on more new signings this window, and he has been impressed by the ambition of the club he has joined.

Has this aired yet?

Re Buendia the thing is here not to panic, we have 3 weeks before the window shuts and we have a good enough squad to get through August. I'd expect a couple of loans for starters with a view to permanently signing.

So looks like we're getting two more then.

Zaniolo and a striker I guess.

I just want to rub Monchi's bald head. What a saucy interview on Sky!

With Buendia's injury it sounds like the perfect time for Monchi to convince Joao Felix to come on loan for the season.

Without wishing to jinx us further, this feels like the first of season in a while where there hasn’t been a serious bid for any of our better players. I wonder if it’s their agents realising we’re onto a good thing here? Even so I’d have expected one of the Sky 6 to try to destabilise us as often seems to be the case.

Still wouldn’t completely shock me after all this we end up with João Félix.

Galatasaray seemingly signing PSG’s Leandro Paredes might suggest a connection to Zaniolo joining us.

They don't really play in the same place. Paredes is more of a run-around-and-kick-people type.

Comment was more about money being freed up than about positions.

Bits of it did. He basically said we are still after new signings & he joined thanks to the ambitions of the owners...

Kudos to Diaby and Torres in particular for being interviewed. They're clearly decent at English but uncomfortable but were prepared to be interviewed live on SSN.
Nothing of any note revealed other than they all buy in to the project etc. etc.
