It's another chance (like the Leicester game) to open a huge gap between top half and the rest. A win is essential to close the gap on the likes of Brentford, Fulham and Brighton who we really should be finishing above. 3-0 Villa.

My thoughts entirely.

Am tempted to stick a little something on 3-1

I tend to find games against Palace a bit of a chore. Only a few really stick out, like that one under Gregory. Last year's home one, with the whole European Cup celebration, was turgid. I saw a load of the '82 squad coming out if the ground though, so that was good.

Even the home game against them the season we won the league in 1980-81 was a bit rubbish.  I think it was played in February and by that time Palace were hopelessly marooned at the bottom of the table, yet we stuttered our way to a 2-1 win, a performance apparently felt by the Villa Park faithful to have been so lacklustre as to warrant a round of booing at full time!

Funnily enough, my old mum only ever attended one game at Villa Park, and that was Palace at home, possibly 1973 but I'm not sure.

Yes, that was one of a small handful of games I went to that season. It was a shocker as I recall. Palace, apart from Vince Hilaire, were terrible. We were at best barely competent. *But* I remember the sentiment after was that we had passed a champions' test: we can play crap and still eke out a win.

The Christian Benteke derby.

Is he still there? I hadn't noticed...

He's now at DC United in MLS.

Going Nil Nil with VAR ruling out a last minute winner from Ollie.

We've played Palace 50 times previously, pretty sure only 7 of them have resulted in an away win, 4 for us, 3 for them.

A win today puts some daylight between us and those in the lower half of the table.  Got some decent fixtures coming up.in the next month or so, so hopefully we can start overtaking some of those above us.
