Saturday 3pm GMT. 3-1 to us. Ollie to make it 6 in a row. FTF!
-
0-0
VAR to rule out 7 goals of ours
-
Someone’s eager!
We’ll score early in each half and we’ll win this game.
A chance for Ollie to continue his recent good record, I’m going for 2 goals from him.
I’ll be watching this game whilst in Genoa over the W/e! UTV!
-
Win 2-0 Watkins & Mings
-
They looked lifeless going forward against Liverpool. No doubt Zaha will be fully recovered but we will still win comfortably.
-
Only if we stop playing it out from the back, kick towards the Holte in the second half and the tea lady has put all the tea leaves in a row!
-
Someone’s eager!
We do this every week.
-
Just win. I'm bringing my Bayern supporting nephew to his first English football match. He is genuinely excited and now has a Villa shirt and scarf. Just hoping he is as enthusiastic at 5pm on Saturday.

The question won’t about his enthusiasm and zest for life, but yours. He’s going back to supporting Bayern after the game.
-
These lot can be deadly on the break!!
Prepare properly for that and we win this.
2-0 Watkins and Ramsey
-

We do this every week.
Never as early as a Monday morning. Hopefully, the horses haven't been spooked.
-
I worry about them going forward but a win really would help our push. It's at home, they'll probably try and sit back and we just need to be aware of them on the break.
I'm going 2-1 Watkins and Moreno
-
Will miss this, second game in a row as over in Thailand for my wifes 50th, watched the Arsenal game on the plane over, but this time will be in between flights in Singapore airport on the way home.
Not underestimating Palace, but a straight up goal in each half 2-0, Watkins and McGinn.
-
0-2.
-
Zaha usually seems to cause Mings problems.
Can't see them scoring many, if at all.
4-1 win
-
3-0 to us, don’t care who scores.
-
Should be a reasonably easy win, but hard to be confident with our home form. I will be optimistic though and predict a 3-1.
-
They've had a tough run of games, Man Utd, Newcastle, and Brighton at home, Brentford away before Liverpool and managed to draw 4 out of 5. It won't be easy.
-
Another fascinating game in the first part of this Managers reign. After arresting a rocky run by, not only grabbing the points but also keeping a clean sheet we come to a game where we will be expected to win, as we were against Leicester.
The opponents are tough as the run of draws indicates but I think we will have enough. Another clean sheet might be fanciful though.
3-1
-
I think we'll win, which normally means we lose.
-
I like the fact that UE knows we have a bit of a problem growing at home and expect him to strategically and tactically sort this out.
In an ideal scenario
We win the game with some ease (rather than taking us all to the point of a coronary)
We play some decent football
We keep a back to back clean sheet
Ever so accidentally of course, Mings scrapes his studs down Zaha's throat leaving him crying to the ref like the total baby that he is

Zahas a pantomime villain at VP but id gave him in our team all day long
-
These are as bad as Everton at the minute - play smart and we can beat them readily
-
There might be a sending off in this, there usually is.
-
They can be hard to break down but are pretty shit overall, they've only beaten shit sides this season. Us under Action Man are probably the best side they've beaten and we were utterly shit back then.
3-1 win to the good guys.

I think they're mostly pretty ordinary, but in Zaha, Eze and Olise, they have three players who can be very dangerous on their day.
-
Zaha has been out injured and will only start training this week apparently
-
Zaha has been out injured and will only start training this week apparently
I think he's a bit more advanced than that, this was the report from Friday before the Liverpool game:
"The Eagles talisman trained with the team this week, although Vieira said a decision on the winger’s availability will need to wait until the day of the game."
Put a tenner on him scoring against us then.
-
Oh great.
-
Palace are not in good form, comfortable win, 3-0, OW to become the first Villa player since...?...to score in 6 consecutive top level games
-
We should just settle for a gentlemens agreement with Palace where we just both keep the three points from the home fixtures without bothering to travel to play, save everyone the hassle.
-
A physical battle is guaranteed. They bullied us in that shambles of a game earlier in the season. Could Chambers or even the Donk do a better job at RCB than Konsa on current form? They will plant some carthorse next to Konsa if he plays. Ayew bullied Digne too.
Other than that, Buendia will come in for Bailey and that will be it I'd say. Going to have to keep Matty Cash in I think to see if he can handle Zaha, though I'd have more trust in Young for 60-70 mins. Kind of test Cash needs to pass if he has a future under Emery next season. I'd keep Digne on other side ahead of Moreno for now. More needed from Kamara and Luiz who were a bit off as a duo v Everton. Buendia will help though.
-
Looking forward to this one. If we win I think we cna dream about Europe again.
I want to see every one of our players putting maximum effort in and winning every challenge and playing as if their lives depend on it!
COME ON!
FTF.
-
Tough game to predict. I think we can win by a single goal
-
1-1 . theyre a good side i think
-
3 0
Watkins
Emi 2
Bertie
-

Yeah, but think we'll win 2-1.
-
1-3 to us.
-
This is another measure of where we are right now. Playing the next team down in the table, at home, could be close, they aren't bad and we'll need to perform well. We should be good enough for the win.

It's a real six pointer in the battle for 11th! Win and we're 7 points clear of everybody below us, so 11th really should be the bare minimum we achieve this year. Lose and we'll only be 1 ahead of Palace and possibly only 3 ahead of Forest if they beat Everton. Get the three points and I hope that Emery really takes the brakes off and goes for it in the remaining games.
-
Yep, a win means we're looking up.
Palace feelike this is the start of their goods run of fixtures. I have a sneaky feeling they will drop further.
-
Zaha is injured isn't he?
-
Zaha is injured isn't he?
See the last page. He was back in training last week and they gave him a late fitness test on the day of the Liverpool game. Obviously he wasn't ready for that, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't play against us.
-
Zaha always seems to have a good game against us, unfortunately, and he makes a BIG difference to the way Palace play. If he's fit to play (I think he's missed four games?), I'll be surprised if he's fit enough to do a full 90. It was a hamstring, so he won't have been doing much fitness work in meantime.
It's a big test for Matty Cash. It might be Palace, but Zaha is about as difficult a winger as there is to face in the league. If Cash plays well against him, or we can find a way to stop the supply to him while he's hugging the line, I think we'll win comfortably.
-
They also have Olise and Eze. Fortunately they don't have a recognised goal scorer.
They gang up on teams and exploit physical weaknesses.
-
This could be the game Watkins gets a brace.
2-0 Villa.
Official is Craig Pawson.
In 9 matches at Villa Park Won 3 Drawn 3 Lost 3
Never given a penalty in 19 matches. Its a sign could be awarded one.
Overall 19 matches as Ref 5 wins 4 draws and 10 defeats.
-

Eze has been starting on the bench for the last five or six games, too.

And neither mateta or eduoard can hit the back of a fucking barn door
Hush, FFS! ;)
-
Cue for 1 or 2 apiece
-
Breaking news…Mateta and Edouard score a brace apiece to secure victory for Palace neither player had scored a goal since they took laces out of the footballs!!

I hope Zaha plays and Cash is tasked to deal with him. Time for him to step up and show Emery what he is made of. If he plays again like he did in the first half v Everton then he might not have a future with us.

Crystal Palace are on the longest current winless run in the Premier League, failing to win any of their eight games in 2023 so far
I think we all know what happens next....

Since Emery took over, the table reads thus:
1. Arsenal - 30 points
2. Man United - 28 points
3. Man City - 26 points
4. Newcastle - 23 points
5. Tottenham - 22 points
6. Aston Villa - 22 points
If we can improve our home form against the likes of Palace, weighed in context with Leicester and Wolves (games we ought to, but did not, win) then the improvements in the summer ought to make us a lot more competitive.

The away league table would be interesting since Emery took over. Huge improvement since Gerrard went.

It's been too long since we thought like that.
-
We beat these easily with only 10 men not so long ago - and that was with titty babbie playing (he has to be voted the 2nd most punchable face in football - the #1 being Ratboy at Redfilth of course) but they are a bit more street wise now i would imagine.
Another quick start required and need to dictate the games pace from the off.
2-0 Ollie and McGinn

Nailed-on draw, the type of result that keeps us perennial mid-table Aston Villa.

I think that’s since Gerrard left.

I had a gig booked 7-9 at the Grand.
They’ve just moved it to 5-7.
I now can’t go to the game 😞

Hopefully Villa deliver some magic to get you in the mood.

Wif Zaha is out of contract in the summer. He's already leaving.
Previously, at Arsenal Emery, pursed him so he'll know about all his strengths and how to nullify him.
The players selected will have all the information on their direct opponent.

Presumably he'd have known even more about Martinelli and Saka's strengths. Knowing about them and doing something about them are two very different things.

Emery promoted them and developed them into the team so he did something.
And if you referring to the Villa Arsenal match this the Palace thread so it's different.
And I think you take my point.
-
You've completely missed his though.
-
You've completely missed his though.
No I conceded the point! As I said.
-
Now at Palace the only person who actually showed up for games throughout the disastrous 2015–16 season was Jordan Ayew. He would make the effort despite many players not being interested. Top scorer for us. He has my respect for that.
-
Idrissa Gueye put a reasonable shift in as well.
-

Week late with that.
A point each!
-
I'll always remember Ayew for an utterly pointless, avoidable, petulant sending off against West Ham.

Like all us during his time at the club, he never, ever smiled. Given how utterly shit we were that season and what he probably had to deal with in the background with ****** like Gabby, Richards etc. I can understand why.

Yeah tbh the fact he was clearly not happy is a sign in his favour given some of the gurning fucking morons we had in that squad.
-
About 10 years ago, when we were under Lambert, Palace got hold of all the Villa info with all with our changes in the team and our formation. They had the starting 11 line up, and that before kick-off.
Apparently Pulis' Crystal Palace did it the week before against Cardiff.
Later in the season they were found guilty of that offence against the welsh club. And were fined.
Why no points deduction?
And why didn't Villa make more of it too?
Shocking.
-
Think we'll be o.k in this one. Palace are tough to beat but they are really struggling upfront, Mateta was also attempting to finish v Liverpool. Zaha could be back but doubt he'll last 90 minutes if they start him.
Usual fast start infront of the Holte and goal after 10 minutes and I'll go for a 3-1 win.
-
Not sure how much I've seen Jordan smile at Palace either, in fairness. He just has one of those frowny faces. I do too, so can empathise.
-
The Guardian's "10 things...." Premier League preview has ignored us again. Both pre and post match entries for the Woolwich and Everton games were entirely focused on our opponents, and this week's preview is all about Palace.
Monday will probably bring about the half dozen.
-
I'm feeling mildly optimistic for this game which usually results in being let down. Don't put a downer on my weekend please Villa.ì
-

He reminds me of the one out the Anthill Mob who always burst into tears.

I tend to find games against Palace a bit of a chore. Only a few really stick out, like that one under Gregory. Last year's home one, with the whole European Cup celebration, was turgid. I saw a load of the '82 squad coming out if the ground though, so that was good.
-
Our players should be treating this game like an 'FA Cup' final. Heaven knows, we are owed one!!
How many times over the years have we seen Villa get into a comfortable position and then go to sleep. This game will tell us a lot. Are we serious about the future or just making up the numbers?
I hope Unai (and the fans) put pressure on our players to perform at high intensity and earn the three points they are capable of getting.
I believe Unai will, I just hope our fans don't give them an easy ride and settle for second best. More demanding, less resignation.
It is not the holiday season yet.
-
Let's face it Baldy, they are a factory of mild irritation most of the time.

Fair comment, the most memorable Palace game at Villa Park was in 1990.

I can't actually remember that one - I recall the 4-1 (Walters hat trick) in Div 2, and a 2-1 win with Platt scoring the week before the Everton 6-2. There was a 3-0 where Staunton either scored from 360 yards out or from a corner! Just twigged as I'm typing you may be talking about the FA Cup semi final with Liverpool - grrr!
-
My circumcision nurse was a Palace fan (so I was nicer about them than I might otherwise have been when we were chatting) He reckons that that Sainsbury's is going to make way for a ground expansion. Not sure how that'll work unless the whole thing is knocked down and shifted a bit. God knows part of their ground needs rebuilding. And by that of course I mean the utterly dire and horrible Arthur Wait stand. Unless you're in the first few rows it feels like you're watching the game on wide-screen.

The 2-1, weren't we 1-0 down with 5 minutes to go? The roar of relief when we snatched it at the end has not left my memory.
I remember the 4-1. Wasn't Walters allowed to take a penalty at the end with the game won in order to get his hat trick? I know he wasn't the usual penalty taker
-
I remember a 3-1 win in the league cup in 2010 or so. Carew shithousing a couple of penalties to win it

It is not the holiday season yet.
We are 8 points off 7th place, the lowest league place that will reward European competition next year (assuming the FA Cup is won by a team in the top 6). It is entirely bridgeable. In all likelihood this season will however become one of mid table consolidation. But that doesn't mean we have to write it off as such at this stage, with still over 1/3 of the campaign to go...

I was 16 living at home and that was a great Liverpool side. It was one of the greatest FA Cup games I’ve seen. Wasn’t the other semi final that year an equally great game between Oldham and Man United, 3-3 and Man United winning 2-1 on a replay?

I want a Spring'98 John Gregory-motivated barnstorming run to the end of season.
P13 W10 D0 L3 (our defeats coming in Madrid and at home to Bolton and Barnsley who both got relegated!). We've never played better football over a sustained period since then, in my humble op*. It's been exactly 25 years. Let's finally supercede this shit.
*Sorry, the immaculate Spring-finish of ten league wins on the trot four years ago cannot compare as it was in a secondary league.

Even the home game against them the season we won the league in 1980-81 was a bit rubbish. I think it was played in February and by that time Palace were hopelessly marooned at the bottom of the table, yet we stuttered our way to a 2-1 win, a performance apparently felt by the Villa Park faithful to have been so lacklustre as to warrant a round of booing at full time!
Funnily enough, my old mum only ever attended one game at Villa Park, and that was Palace at home, possibly 1973 but I'm not sure.

If you see an overnight grey-haired Adonis wearing a Seattle Mariners cap an Pogon Szczecin scarf (very Harry Potter), it’s likely to be me. So say hello.
My parents always taught me never to speak to strange men.

A win and another clean sheet would be very welcome. I'll go 3-1. Mcginn, Watkins and a first goal for Duran in front of one of his fellow countrymen.

You can get 24/1 on a 3-1

Can't make it today because of a family event, so I'll miss the battering (that we're long overdue to give to someone at home) we'll give them. Fancy Ollie to score again and Duran to be Hungry Like the Wolf.
4-1 us.

Craig Pawson is ref.
What's interesting is he hasn't sent off a player in 15 matches this season.
Could he send a player off today?
Also this season the win percentage for a home team when he is ref is 26.7% draw is 26.7 % and away wins are 46%

It's another chance (like the Leicester game) to open a huge gap between top half and the rest. A win is essential to close the gap on the likes of Brentford, Fulham and Brighton who we really should be finishing above. 3-0 Villa.

Hopefully if it's Zaha.

My thoughts entirely.
Am tempted to stick a little something on 3-1

I tend to find games against Palace a bit of a chore. Only a few really stick out, like that one under Gregory. Last year's home one, with the whole European Cup celebration, was turgid. I saw a load of the '82 squad coming out if the ground though, so that was good.
Yes, that was one of a small handful of games I went to that season. It was a shocker as I recall. Palace, apart from Vince Hilaire, were terrible. We were at best barely competent. *But* I remember the sentiment after was that we had passed a champions' test: we can play crap and still eke out a win.

The Christian Benteke derby.
Is he still there? I hadn't noticed...

He's now at DC United in MLS.

Going Nil Nil with VAR ruling out a last minute winner from Ollie.

My bet today. Either team to keep a clean sheet...evens⁹

4-0
It’ll start to click

We've played Palace 50 times previously, pretty sure only 7 of them have resulted in an away win, 4 for us, 3 for them.

A win today puts some daylight between us and those in the lower half of the table. Got some decent fixtures coming up.in the next month or so, so hopefully we can start overtaking some of those above us.
