Tielemans is the obvious choice, but - as PWS says - you'd expect a pecking order to exist and for it to be adhered to.

Luiz is now the number one penalty taker clearly.
100% record.

Against West Ham I was sure he would score the pen
Have so much confidence in him when he steps up.

So that's 3 Penalties received this season and that would have been 3 more opportunities for goals for Watkins.

I think it recognised how good Douglas is at pens and as team player despite Watkins ambition to score 20+ goals the responsibility is with Douglas.
It's also pleasing there are no petty squabbles for penalty taking during the match.

When Dougie takes penalties I'm so sure he will score that I don't even worry he will miss.

And while I obviously adore Watkins, I'm very confident that those three opportunities would not have been three goals.

Yes unfortunately I agree on Watkins penalties and credit the coaching staff, Ollie Watkins and the team to basically acknowledge Douglas is the one.

After the game yesterday when being interviewed on tv, Luiz was asked about the uncertainty amongst the players as to who would be taking the penalty. That's not something I'd picked up when watching.

Doug’s a brilliant penalty taker, power and precision every time.

Watkins gave the ball to McGinn who carried it around for a bit while the VAR check happened. There was no uncertainty. Just a bit of the old Ashley Young stuff where he'd take the pressure away from the actual penalty taker.

Didn’t they do that thing where one of the other players (McGinn I think) grabs the ball so if there a an extended VAR or gamesmanship from the cat kicker or someone they take it then give the ball to Douglas??

Don’t think there was any discussion on taker

Yep they’ve been doing that for a while, McGinn takes the ball to deal with all the gamesmanship and bullshit, Dougie stands to one side then when the ref is ready invariably after all the VAR bullshit, McGinn gives him the ball and off we go.

That link to the Pundits panel on post thread seems to indicate Digne seemed to be questioning McGinn for it.

I now worry more about VAR overruling the decision to award the penalty in the first place than I do Doug missing.

I magine at this point you'd have to cut Doug's arms off to take the ball off him for penalty duties. I was hoping he was going to get his hat trick with a direct corner and he wasn't far off.

I never think Doug will miss.

I used to always think Ollie would miss.

For any top level team it's critical to have a secure penalty taker as you'll be getting plenty of them and Doug is showing already with his composure he can have a similar record to Gareth Barry or Milner when they were on penalties for us.

ElGhazi was excellent.  Doug is the only player since who gives me a similar sort of confidence.
