It’s been around two decades since Premier League clubs started putting out weakened sides in cup matches and in all that time I can think of hardly a single occasion when I’ve come away from the game thinking that some young lad has shown promise

Archer at Carlisle and at Chelsea?

This is too bleak to handle.

We didn’t play any young lads today which made the loss all the more galling. We played experienced professionals many of whom are internationals. Two that just came back from the World Cup.

Very eloquent and to the point, Dave, but I didn't like referring to the opposition as "this shower".
They were well organised, and executed their game plan. I don't think we had a game plan.

Very kind of you to use that term when so many more came to mind

Our fans seemed subdued today, what was that about? Was everybody complacent- it was such a strange day.

I'm guessing a combination of a crap kick off time, relatively smallish crowd, waiting for a game to ignite that you should be winning easily.

I think there is a disconnect between what the fans think of the cup competitions and what the players and managers do.  Going out of the cups really hurts us as fans, but question if they really feel the same.   For them it's probably just a shrug of the shoulders and a quick look online at getting away to Dubai for a few days on 4th round weekend.

Was in the North Stand Lower and didn't see too many empty seats.  Some corporate ones in the Trinity, a little pocket in upper Trinity and the same in the Doug Ellis.  Couldn't see the North Stand, but the rest of the ground looked full.  Certainly didn't look like there were nearly 10,000 empty seats.

We were saying that it was quiet. The attendance was great.

Risso referred to a "relatively smallish crowd" and I saw the attendance quoted as 32,000 in one report.
