If you're talking about personalities, I can think of 3 past winners, if you were to describe their good points the word 'personality' would not crop up, Ryan Giggs, Greg Rusedski and Nick Faldo.

Not forgetting that time they gave it to Bobby Moore. Still, he would only have nicked it otherwise.

It can never be based on personality, as Andy Murray has won it, and he appears to have the personality of a rock.

Seems a fairly decent chap with a dry sense of humour, IMO.

I agree, something he seems more confident in showing in latter years.

I think the only time I’ve watched SPOTY in the last 20 years was during lockdown.

I'm not sure I've ever seen more than about two minutes of it. When Scotland win the Euros in 2024 I might watch it to see SJM get the award.

If Scotland win the euros in 2024 you’ll still be shitfaced in December and won’t remember how the tv works

I guess I feel the award should go to the Brit who has attained the highest sporting level in their respective sport. He's undisputed heavyweight champ.

He didn't attain it this year though, he retained it by fighting a pair of nobodies. It'd be like Argentina winning their version for the next three years because they're still world champions.

I agree with CDBF and PMcM, I also like his dry sense of humour. It's also worth noting he's had to put up with Judy Murray.

As expected Beth Mead won it, 2nd Ben Stokes, 3rd Eve Muirhead.

How sexist of the BBC giving a 3rd place trophy to a woman just because she's good with a broom, seriously though a deserved winner even though I thought Ben would win.

A deserved winner and also a rather wonderful trigger for the gammons to rage.

Talking of that word, I find it funny the Gammons try to claim it is a racial slur when someone non-white uses it. Someone claimed Sanjeev Baskhar was racist last night when he used it. Strange they don't use that complaint when white people use it though.

He's also given away all his prize money since the war started to help Ukrainian children, which is pretty decent.

Messi won the World Sport Star, but they couldn't give him the trophy as they'd no idea, where he was.

I personally think Kevin Sinfield should have been a contender in the main award, given that his incredible feats raising money for MND have been in the field of sport.
