Anyway, can we please have Jon Crofts complaining that it should be a cyclist? It's tradition, FFS. ☹️

Okay, I was only asking. ☹️

I know he's go some suspect associations and views but if you are judging this purely on sport then its Tyson Fury surely.

I'm a fan of Fury, but this year he's beaten Dillian White and Derek Chisora (for a third time). Nothing remotely special about that.

No mention of gymnast Joe Fraser.  Travesty.

Would like to see Eve Muirhead win it but it's difficult for any Winter Olympian to get a look in when the awards are handed out ten months after the games.

Ben Stokes is a deserved contender, but the England cricket team have won global tournaments more than once before in recent memory, whereas no England football team had won anything of note for nearly sixty years before this summer. So, Beth Mead seems a perfectly fair choice, assuming she wins.

Those saddles are a deathtrap.

No anglers again I see. Bloody woke BBC, still refusing to recognise bear-baiting and squirrel-taunting as legitimate sports.

Cos nobody does it professionally. There's no room for the Corinthian spirit any more.

The omission of Grand Slam Winner Matt Fitzpatrick is a disgrace.

I think the word “personality” means that it’s not purely on sport.

So you are thinking Beth mead is more of a personality then Fury?
To be honest this went from my favourite tv show to not watching once they gave it to giggs as a lifetime achievement award - that worked out well.

So you missed the other year when they nominated Fury, he threatened to sue them before stating he wouldn't attend. So why would they include him this year?

Struggling to see who he would replace in the list, tbh. If he'd won the whole Grand Slam, fair enough. Winning one of the four isn't particularly unusual for UK players, it's happened nine times since 2009.

I’m not a big boxing follower but Fury seems to have the personality of a nightclub bouncer.

To be honest I haven’t watched in years as I’m just not a fan of awards shows in general so don’t really care who wins it.

I guess I feel the award should go to the Brit who has attained the highest sporting level in their respective sport. He's undisputed heavyweight champ.

He is one of four champions so not "undisputed", at all. All the candidates have achieved the highest level of their sport that was possible this year (given that there was no Summer Olympics, Women's World Cup, etc). He hasn't done anything special this year, he will have a better claim next year if he beats some decent opposition.

It can never be based on personality, as Andy Murray has won it, and he appears to have the personality of a rock.

It's all bollocks and I don't care who wins, but one thing I will say is that Fury's recent book on mental health is excellent for anybody looking for an accessible, practical and sympathetic but not self-pitying read on the subject.

I honestly think he could potentially save hundreds if not thousands of lives with his mental health work.

Seems a pretty uninspiring list, it should be Ronnie O'Sullivan but it will probably be Ben Stokes.

Seems a fairly decent chap with a dry sense of humour, IMO.
