You could argue the challenge was reckless by the brighton player for the non-penalty too.
Exactly. I am surprised that people are looking at it as a foul by Digne. Lucas only had one intent to play the ball out and as he went to do that March was nowhere near him. March than clashed into him almost two footed. A yellow card minimum was in order for him.

"Stonewall penalty" cry all the experts.

Shame.

De Zerbi said Brighton should have had a penalty and Villa's penalty was not a penalty. A balanced view there. I hope he's got an appointment at Specsaver early next week.

the Muppet on WM said the ball was going away from Mcginn anyway,I thought it's a foul so it's a penalty,

That was great, a really good performance apart from the first minute. Lots of good stuff to take forward. Thought Kamara was excellent along with Luiz and yes McGinn too. Loved the shithousery too, maybe a little less. Early days but we’re going in the right direction. Let’s give the manager time to build on this good start.

what some people don't realise, the WM reporter obviously one of them, is that the ball doesn't have to be in the penalty area for a penalty to be awarded, just the players.

The problem I find is that they only show the point of contact of an incident and they then slow it down and show freeze frames of them.  Especially with handballs, it takes away how the incident actually occurred and makes things look a lot worse.

9 points from Brentford, Toon, Manure and Brighton.. good riddance.
Two and a quarter per game. Marvellous. Keep it up Unai.

As he's only been in charge for two games, he has 3ppg.

A come from behind win (when do we ever do that?!) against a form team, away, with a team that didn’t look obviously promising, with a greater sense of togetherness and discipline, and a derided striker scoring twice. Gotta luv that.

Even Lil’ Lee thinks it was a Pen against Digne, so what do I know
Never a penalty. There was no intent to foul, Brighton player ran into Lucas, the clumsy donkey.
I don't like those sort of penalties but, based on what's been given against us in the past, I'd expect it to be a penalty if a Villa player that was on the receiving end of that tackle. Been on 3 or 4 other clubs' forums and pretty much everyone thinks it was a penalty and that VAR got its wrong, with the word stonewall being used a lot.
Cracking result though and the table looks a lot better than it did 8 days ago.
Solly March won a vey dodgy penalty at VP 2-3 years' ago (Trezeguet was the defender) so I see this one as one of those balancing-out situations.

My first reaction was it was a foul on Digne.

P.S. Well played John McGinn. Gave him a lot of stick recently but he proved me wrong today.

Eh? He was forever giving the ball away, miles more than anybody else in the team.

McGinn was excellent, winning the ball all over time pitch, as did Buendia. They were all pretty good,  though Mings was his usual Curate’s Egg. I’m also stunned by how good Ashley Young has been recently .
