My favourite line from the interview is "I think the shape is not so important, we played in the spaces..."

Our oldest grandson is on his way home from a trip to the Cern Hadron Collider, he's eighteen today and to think he's never seen the Villa beat Manure at Villa Park, he'll be as happy as a clam.

Was he there to learn more about the McGrath Particle?

Top class quote from a top class manager.

Gerrard would be going on about running up and down the pitch as much as I don't really want to keep referencing him on a day like this.

Shows the difference in game understanding though at crucial points and Emery has that in abundance.

That was just outstanding from the first whistle to the last. Had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of a Marseille fan after the game who was raving about how good Kamara is.
A top Sunday

All of the above, plus special mention to the Brentford duo - I thought Watkins and Konsa were back to their best today: the latter moving the ball forward and moving into overlap positions was fantastic to see, and the former looking to play colleagues in rather than having his head down and ploughing forwards. A massive shot of confidence to the squad.
Beating those tossers was a joy: now, let's make a home win routine.

Brilliant today, Unai was organising the shape from the sideline throughout. Makes a mockery of Gerrard continually saying we lack quality, no we lacked shape and decent coaching.

The Man Yoo fans sat around me did well to stay until the 90th minute, all Brummies of course.

So many good performances today but JJ stood out, brilliant how he kept finding space in midfield and for the last ten minutes dropped into right back in a back five when they had the ball before joining into the middle when we regained possesion.

Well that felt great!  We played as well in the first 20 minutes as we’ve played for some time.  The intensity both when we both had the ball and when we were defending was really high and we caused them all kinds of trouble.  Thought we then came off the pace a bit as the half went on and they had a number of chances, even though the goal was a fluke.

Getting a 3rd early in the 2nd half was crucial and we didn’t really look too troubled after that.  Thought Martinez made some important saves and commanded his box well, Konsa and Mings were solid, Cash and Digne did well in defence and going forward, Luiz and Dendoncker gave us solid platform in midfield, Bailey looked a real threat, Ramsey had a good game and Watkins looked more like his old self.  Buendia had one of his curate’s egg performances, with some moments of sublime quality mixed with some bad mistakes. The subs all added a bit when they came on.

As for Unai Emery, he must be absolutely shattered after a game.  He was on the touch line all game animatedly instructing the players, particularly when we were defending.  Not a bad start, ending 27 years of mostly misery at home against that lot.

Ah, so thats what a decent side, well coached looks like.

Marvellous, I’ve seen us more swashbuckling, more like to score every time we attacked, more adventurous but rarely so comfortable, everyone seemed to know exactly what was expected of them and executed it perfectly.

I’d have normally have taken a draw 3.1 up but today we kept the ball flawlessly.

I’m a tincy bit impressed.

Magnificent. A plan, tactics, substitutions, a fluidity to our play, pass and move, rarely troubled by United and superb shithousing by Martinez.

Early days but impressive improvement. Players and shape. We were totally in control but had to laugh at myself ( crapping myself) and the tension in the crowd.... with ten minutes to go and a history of collapse. Not this time. Impressive stuff.
