Have some of that you ******. What a superb all round display. Brilliant start for Unai who managed the game as well as could be in terms of prep and in game changes. Bailey was hungry, Buendia busy and the midfield generally solid. Special mention for Emi “the taller” for his command of the box, distribution and all round shithousery.
-
YYEEEAAASSSS! FUCK OFF MAN UTD, YOU WANKERS!
-
Fantastic. They can't even blame the grey shirts today. At long long last. FTF UTV!
-
I also thought Ramsey was great. He's going to be such a big player for us.
-
Fuck you fuck you manyanited
-
Oh, that feels so good.
F*** off Man ure
-
We're gonna win the league!
-
Great to see tactics from a Villa manager, we looked so organised and as the TV commentator said, this was a good Villa performance rather than a poor Man U one.
-
Might crack a beer.
Fuck it, I WILL crack a beer.
-
I fucking love this club.
-
Absolute shit housed that last 30 minutes. Love it!
-
I also thought Ramsey was great. He's going to be such a big player for us.
Motm for me, he was superb.
Can't think of any of the starters that had a poor game though and all the subs came on and kept up the tempo, which was all we were really asking from them.
-
Yes, yes and yes again. Welcome to the new era.
-
Fuck off back to Hertfordshire then!
-
27 years of hurt!! Finally, we buried the c*nts.
-
The "kids" are now middle-aged men. It's been a long 27 years!
-
Well that was entirely acceptable.
Fucking get in, Manc fucking twats, fuck off!
I fucking love you Unai.
-
What a difference with a decent game plan that players are committed to makes
-
Been waiting 27 years for that and it feels FUCKING BRILLIANT.
-
Great joy and relief.
-
Steven Gerrard will be delighted for us. He hates Man Utd.
-
Thank you, thank you and thank you again....
They can fuck off back home..Thank you Unai.
-
Gora Villa! Gora Euskadi! Fuck Manyoo!
-
What an amazing second half that was.
Professional stuff which is what we'll be getting under this manager.
Man. United barely had a shot.
Ronaldo's been one of the greats but he's a sorry sight these days. Bizarre to make someone captain who dosen't want to be there.
One of those moments which you wait so long for and it actually feels pretty normal. Did burst out laughing at the "come to see the Villa" chant directed at their fans right at the end. Class.
-
The "kids" are now middle-aged men. It's been a long 27 years!
I'd just finished university, and had moved up to Wigan with my then girlfriend, and started my first job. Fast forward 27 years and I'm 5 kids in.
-
Do em again on Thursday please.
-
Easy win! :)
-
That was shockingly good. Shocking. The contrast with last week, with the last thousand weeks, is mental.
-
Think I’m gonna go for a pint
-
YYEEEAAASSSS! FUCK OFF MAN UTD, YOU WANKERS!
Post of the day.
-
I'm naked and I'm going to have to go outside to celebrate.
-
Superb last 20 mins from us. V professional. No panic, played the ball around so well. All looked high on confidence. Awesome.
-
That was shockingly good. Shocking. The contrast with last week, with the last thousand weeks, is mental.
That's what a proper manager can do with this squad, we have so much talent going forward it's a fucking disgrace how poor we looked in attack under the scouse bellend.
-
That was shockingly good. Shocking. The contrast with last week, with the last thousand weeks, is mental.
Great win but to be honest, we played equally well against Man City and Chelsea. It's away from home that Unai is going to earn his corn this season.
-
What. A. Day. So much heartache over the years, so much cheating by them. And today we played them off the park and won fair and square.
-
Gracias Unai! Hermoso!!!
-
Absolutely made up , couldn’t watch it , but what was the midfield and attack formation ?
-
Put £6 on MU win at odds 16 when 2-0 - best spent ever
-
Do em again on Thursday please.
Urgh. I forgot about that.
Well, yes. Fuck them. We'll do the bastards once more.
-
I don't think this is just a new manager bounce. We have a proper manager at last.
-

Great win but to be honest, we played equally well against Man City and Chelsea. It's away from home that Unai is going to earn his corn this season.
We were never in control for those games though. For the first time in decades against these ******, we have a manager who knew how to defend a lead.
-
The old lady stirs.
-
Clinton Morrison:
"Aston Villa have been excellent and they thoroughly deserve this. Anyone who has just switched on the radio and started listening to us, don't think this is a fluke score line.
Villa have deserved this, Manchester United's goal was a very fluky goal but other than that Villa have been excellent and could probably of scored more goals."
-
YYEEEAAASSSS! FUCK OFF MAN UTD, YOU WANKERS!
This post, forever
-
Can you hear me Ten Hag-gie Thatcher? Your boys took a hell of a beating!
-
VAR has just chalked off our 3rd and awarded Man Utd a penalty.
-
We passed the ball around, we scored some goals.. it was brilliant.
Unai is the truth. Our shape and confidence with the ball today after only a couple days of training has me astounded.
-
Brilliant performance - absolutely excellent everything about it.
Thought in the first half we did so a good jump attacking wise.
I think Luiz, now its not playing as the sole Defensive midfielder looks excellent. Was brilliant see Ramsey and SJM in play further forward - suits there skill so much better. Bailey was excellent - and Luca Digne - today was the first time I saw him and thought - shit, this guy is much better than Matt Targett.
Great start to a new period in our history - and so sweet to finally beat them at Villa Park.
I was so impressed with the second half, for me that showed the difference between Unai and some of our previous managers - we managed the game beautifully in the second half.
I thought it was Ramsey's best game of the season - and he is probably our best finisher in that kind of position!
-
Ace.
-
I'm nowhere near tactically intelligent enough to explain why but Jacob Ramsey had so much space whenever we attacked and that has to have come from the manager.
-
At the time I did not fully appreciated Watkins performance for our first goal.
-
That was shockingly good. Shocking. The contrast with last week, with the last thousand weeks, is mental.
That's what a proper manager can do with this squad, we have so much talent going forward it's a fucking disgrace how poor we looked in attack under the scouse bellend.
Just need a top class CF imo. Ollie was decent today but he just dosen't have the awareness you need to keep top quality attacks going. A Vardy and Giroud upfront in this team from a few years back and we'd be looking really good going forward.
Ings has a bit more guile but can't really run much.
Very exciting how we used Ramsey today, he's going to flourish under Emery.

-
Fucking awesome. Just spent the last 45 minutes in a car with a very silent (previously gobby as fuck) Man U fan.
Bwahahahahaha
-
That last 20 minutes was really good, it's been a very long time since I've seen us play so comfortably while leading against a team from the top 6. We knocked it about, the players who came on all got up to speed quickly, some lovely touches, even from Sanson on his first minutes of the season. Genuinely suprised how much better we looked after only a few days training...
Really excited to see what Unai can do with a solid month of coaching for the players not at the World Cup (which is going to be most of them at this rate?).
Brilliant result, and an really good performance. More of the same in the cup game please!
-
On our way to being a proper football club, respected again? I truly hope so. Cracking win Villa. Well done Unai.
-
I'm naked and I'm going to have to go outside to celebrate.
cool down that ass

That has been a long bloody time coming against those shithouses. 27 years of perpetual misery playing them at Villa park, with so many nearly moments, or games where they've been gifted penalties or the ref has given them the rub. Thankfully today, no such problems, aside from their Martinez persistently fouling from start to finish and us getting maybe two freekicks from it.
Well organised. Everyone was on it. I worried for this game. Partly because it's Utd. But also because they have been in form too.
Excellent game. Everyone was on it. I really hope Bailey finds consistency because when he's good, he's very good. Dendoncker was very good today. The system worked, we looked good going forward. MIDFIELDERS attacking the box. It's so simple. So often we've had no one making runs in the box beyond the striker. We looked threatening on every counter today. Very good.
Bailey playing as a second striker seemed to work very well too. The system seemed to flit between 4-2-3-1 and Emery's 4-2-2-2. It worked well.
Mings and Konsa were superb. Emi was at his best again. Cash excellent. Digne likewise. Ollie worked very hard as per. Emi2 was lively.
Most pleasing for me was JJ. Superb today. Best he's played all season. The one thing Gerrard did well in his time was, initially at least, kick JJ's game up a level. Ultimately his influence became stifling and negative by the end and he almost went and took Ramsey down a few notches. But that was like the JJ of 12 months back. Brilliant. We really need him on form too.
Proof if ever it was needed, that we have good players here, who need to be motivated and properly organised. Yes, they've let themselves and us down, but I'm hopefully Emery will keep their performance levels up. Good to see Sanson back too, with a bit of positive play in his brief cameo.
-

We also weren't horrendously time wasting, but were still happy to have a go when we had the ball. Happy days!
-
Brilliant from all the players and of course Unai.
-
Unai did kill the game off with his subs as he wanted during latter stages of second half IMO. A manager as a manager ought to be. Dont miss you Steven. Jacob Ramsey some player there I also think. And Bailey he is a good forward to have I think. I like Digne and Konsa also. Babakoura when he came on - what a relief to have players in midfield that can hold the ball when they turn with a lot of opposite players around them as Douglas also can and he was as good as he usual is. UTV :)
-
Eamonn Holmes, Brummie Reds, Angus Deyton, Jim White, Olly Murs, Zoe Ball, Mick Hucknall. Booby Charlton, can you hear me? Booby Charlton ... your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!
-
VAR has just chalked off our 3rd and awarded Man Utd a penalty.
Loads on their forum wanted Martinez sent off for that save on Elanga!
-
Late goal conceded in the first half generally smashes our confidence. We all expected a collapse. But instead we won the second half 1-0 comfortably and with incredible composure. It’s said that Emery’s video sessions are very long and detailed. Get used it lads. You’re going to learn how to win and defend leads.
-
The difference was ball retention, which was incredibly good today most of the way. Profound change in 4 days. Proper coach.
At LAST that monkey is off our backs.
-
I'm nowhere near tactically intelligent enough to explain why but Jacob Ramsey had so much space whenever we attacked and that has to have come from the manager.
It felt at times we were playing with two 10's, little Emi busily trying to get touches in between the lines, which Casemiro was trying to cover - but then Ramsey would arrive a little later in the space traditionally used by a 10. It all seemed so fluid, very unlike the Villa of the last 12 months which seemed to attack according to a formula. Ramsey said after the game he was asked to play a bit further forward - and clearly it worked with a goal and an assist.
-
I am impressed with Emery. He is not awful and I like him. ;)
-
Fucking awesome. Just spent the last 45 minutes in a car with a very silent (previously gobby as fuck) Man U fan.
Bwahahahahaha
Amazing
What have they got to be gobby about nowadays? They're even behind Spurs in the pecking order
-
The movement, the energy, the composure - fucking brilliant. Finally can we put this “squad lacks quality” shit and recognise that for 12 months we have had no effective coaching/management.
It’s a simple game.
-
And a special fuck you to Danish co commentator Poul Hansen who twice got caught referring to Scuzzbucket FC as "us". Even my normality peaceable wife was asking "who's that biased wanker?"
-
VAR has just chalked off our 3rd and awarded Man Utd a penalty.
Loads on their forum wanted Martinez sent off for that save on Elanga!
Someone on here was going down a similar thinking route.
Madness. Great save. Improvisation at it's finest.
-

We've got more monkeys than most too. Let's shift a few more this season.

Their own Martinez was very lucky to avoid a VAR review for his elbow into the ribs of Bailey. I'm all for defenders being strong to protect the ball, but that was basically an assault.
-
Brilliant performance. We let them back into it at the end of the second half, but an extremely professional second half display. I was 12 when we last beat this lot in the league at home. I'm 40 on Thursday

Absolutely.
I checked, it was definitely clammier than usual.

So disappointed that I am somewhere over the Atlantic and missed all the fun. I feel a bit emotional.
Now go and do it again Thursday.
UTV.

Booby Charlton, can you hear me? Booby Charlton ... your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!
Spinning in his grave!

We saw more football intelligence from the villa players in 90 minutes under Emery than we have done in the last 12 months in total,
Thank you Mr Emery.
Feckin brilliant :)
-
Great stuff. Couldn't have gone better.
-
And a special fuck you to Danish co commentator Poul Hansen who twice got caught referring to Scuzzbucket FC as "us". Even my normality peaceable wife was asking "who's that biased wanker?"
Yes! Was fuming at that clown. The Mings Crybaby tussle he kept saying it was just Mings. Idiot (he generally is)
-
I was 40 last time we beat them at Villa Park
Fuck !!!!!
And its, Hi Ho Aston Villa
I think this will be he end of that shit record
-
Eamonn Holmes, Brummie Reds, Angus Deyton, Jim White, Olly Murs, Zoe Ball, Mick Hucknall. Booby Charlton, can you hear me? Booby Charlton ... your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!
Cheers! This will save me making one up for the Brummie Reds on my 'timeline'.
-
On the negative side Emi wasn't throwing his water bottle very well after drink (says Footy)
-
It was the space we created that was the real stand out.
United got the stretch.
-
Has Unai done an interview yet?
-
THE VILLA ARE BACK!
Amazing performance today. Mings nailed everything at the back. Onwards and upwards Emery.
-
Someone pinch me please. Well done to Unai and his team.
Welcome back Damo hope all is well.
-
Brilliant. Still the scumiest club insufferable fans ever.
Fuck em.
-
Oh, and Little Lisandro is a scumbag.
-
We were so good, not even their usual combination of biased ref and Fergie time could beat us. Fucked the fuckers at last.

They'd conceded 1 goal in their last 7 games (and that was a pen at Chelsea), and were unbeaten in 9. They may not be the Man Utd of Fergie days but they aren't mugs either. Although we made them look like mugs.

Our oldest grandson is on his way home from a trip to the Cern Hadron Collider, he's eighteen today and to think he's never seen the Villa beat Manure at Villa Park, he'll be as happy as a clam.

The gaffer
Unai Emery: "The supporters were amazing supporting us and the players were great with the plan. First step is to take confidence, start with energy. The fans supported with their response. The way we played the 90 minutes we can be optimistic, we have to keep improving."

It was the space we created that was the real stand out.
United got the stretch.
Without going back to find the post from Risso earlier this sums up the difference today compared to Man City and Chelsea. We played well in those games but still never really looked like winning them, today we looked like we were a threat every time we attacked because we were dragging defenders out of position and using the space it created. The way we setup with Buendia, JJ, Watkins and Bailey was so much cleverer than anything Gerrard managed, with all 4 of them swapping positions and forcing defenders to make decisions. Shaw in particular looked like a useless sack of shit.
-
Unbelievable result. They really are a horrible shower of ******, and we deservedly won. Has work started on the Emery statue yet?
-
Our oldest grandson is on his way home from a trip to the Cern Hadron Collider, he's eighteen today and to think he's never seen the Villa beat Manure at Villa Park, he'll be as happy as a clam.
Wow, the CERN Hadron Collider is perhaps of the very few things on earth I’d enjoy seeing as much as us beating Manchester United at VP!
-
It was the space we created that was the real stand out.

If it looks like a duck...
-
It was the space we created that was the real stand out.
United got the stretch.
One of the training videos last week showed Emery pointing into space and the look of our players looking like “wtf are we allowed to do that?”

Exactly this, completely different performance today. Not so much blood and thunder, but large spells of total control and shape, the team had shape and i cant remember a single hopeful punt into the box and this is a manyoo team that haven’t lost in 7 or 8. Im going with my lad on Thursday and still don’t expect loads as whens the last time we beat these twice in a week. But today, wow, just all those fooking years of getting older and never beating them at home and once Ramseys goal went in, it was easy , total controlled football.
And a last point Ollie Watkins is very obviously not shit.
-
Looking forward to watching it again later on motd and seeing them cry.

Brummie Reds
Easily the worst people on the planet. If we had kids I'd prefer them to be Blues fans; we might have fucked up royally bringing them up but at least they'd have soul.
Booby Charlton, can you hear me? Booby Charlton ...
As ever, Ron Atkinson's assessment of the man is spot on: "A grizzling old misery. A dour and distant individual."

Was it Risso who said he’d get a tattoo? Fetch me the ink a needle a cork and some thread

Is this what it’s like to have a proper coach?
Movement off the ball, moving the ball quickly when on it, tactically spot on and subs that killed the game. Loved the way the ref kept rushing Martinez with his goals kicks second half, the booking was appalling but what’s new? Also a lovely bit of defending by him when we were the counter.
Sky will be a sad place tonight.
-
Unbeaten against these for 3 matchin the league. When could we last say that?
Amazingly under 3 different coaches.
-
A cracking well deserved result. We looked them firmly in the eye and wiped the floor with them. We deserved the clean sheet if it wasn’t for that lucky deflection for them. Mings and Watkins a colossus for us with Luiz and Bailey not far behind! Everybody did their jobs well. 1 game is all it took for Emery to defeat a sly 6 team!
I loved the high defensive press. All our goals were quality. Our fans were awesome! What a day, what a win! Emery already creating history for us!
-
Hard to name the best performances, there was a lot on show out there today. Watkins instrumental in two goals, Dendoncker's passing was really measured, he looked a very stable influence alongside Luiz, Bailey did what I hoped he is capable of on a more regular basis, the run and shot at the start of the 2nd half was cheeky and showed loads of confidence. Good to see Kamarra.
There was a link between the lines today which has been missing, the defenders were able to move the ball to the midfield more easily, playing out from the back was nowhere near as terrifying as it has been. Similar;y the midfield was overlapping to draw defenders off of the front 3. Almost as though there was a plan of how to play... Excellent. Please, please, please could we do the double this week? Onwards in the cup and I think the whole Villa camp will be a happier place.
-
What a great display, as a season ticket holder that was mightily impressive. Good to see Sanson on if only for a couple of minutes, and of course, a big welcome back for Bouba Kamara!
-

Exactly this - I watched a video on Unai's tactics and could see that in our play - the way we were able to paly out from the back in a safe way, and found so much space.
So much better from most of the last decade which can generally be summed up with the phrase - "it looks like they have more players than us"

Amazingly under 3 different coaches.
95-97, WDDD. Only 6 points, 7 in our current run.

What a hoodoo to dispense with in your first game as our manager. Outstanding. What a brilliant result.
-
I'm in Manchester this weekend so looking forward to ripping the piss a bit later!
-
VAR has just chalked off our 3rd and awarded Man Utd a penalty.
and they were ordered to play the 6 mins extra time after the Villa fans went home and the Man U fans were kept in. Final result Villa 6 Man U 2. LOL
-
Fantastic result and a very good performance. Now let's go and fucking do it again on Thursday.
-
Some very poor behaviour by villa fans today. Rejoicing beating a sky 6 team. No doubt our punishment will come. How dare we do something that might upset the status quo..
-
What a shame it wasn't on mainstream TV. Watching them get what they received. What a difference in just a few days.
-
That ref was pretty awful.
-
That ref was pretty awful.
Indeed. It is particularly satisfying that despite the ref being wank, VAR being mostly wank, and them being wankers, we were too good for any of that to affect the result.

Ratings, Martinez 8, Cash 7, Konsa 7, Mings 8, Digne 7, Luiz 8, Dendoncker 7, Bailey 7, Watkins 8, Ramsey 9, Buendia 7. Subs with exception of Ings all made good contributions. Was delighted to see Sanson back involved.
Great win, brilliant start and tactically Emery owned EtH. Lots of finger pointing going on between Shaw and the bench as to who was meant to pick up Ramsey. Ropey spell before half time, with a fluky goal conceded which was coming I thought. But to blow them out of it very quickly in the second half was very satisfying.
Lots of these players have had false dawns before so the challenge is consistency now.
-
I'll be honest, I quite enjoyed that.
Ratings:
Every Villa player, member of the coaching staff, ballboys/girls, everyone who has ever worked for Villa: 10/10.
Every Man United player including the referee: 0/10.

A fantastic interview from the fantastic Emery.
And congratulations to everyone who came out to support Unai at the game and made him feel at ease!
Well done, and it must have been incredible to witness the game and the moment.
-
I missed the game due to a family wedding. We were sharing a table with extended family red scums. Fathers and sons all brummie born and bred but red ******. So near the end I sat there just nonchalant and they kept saying oh you must be delighted, why aren't you looking happy? To which I replied it's a home win, I expect Villa to win all our home matches. This intensely annoyed them as they were expecting me to celebrate like a 10 year old who's just found a tub of swizzels.
I have hated them all my life and today was immensely satisfying. Thank you Unai.
-
Tactics. A game plan. In-game management. Fluidity to the system. Amazing.
-
Their fans, who mostly seem to be from Africa on various social media platforms, are ripping into Ten Hag and Ronaldo. It’s a joy to read.
-
It’s just great to be able to celebrate a win over those w*****s and not have to endure them running on to the pitch and setting off flares with impunity.

Absolutely. It'll be a sad walk home for them.

Then Sanson and Kamara pointing at him and laughing after.
-
How pathetic are thier support. Give it the large one when it suits, then leaves in droves when clearly they are not going to win or have officials cave in for them.
Still it is a long way to the south coast on a Sunday.

To which I'd add James Nesbitt, Terry Christian, Simon Le Bon. Russell Watson, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Kim Jong-un and Angela Rayner.
Sweet to beat those f*ckers after so many sickening defeats and nice symmetry that it was 3-1. Hopefully that's this particular hoodoo done and dusted.

My favourite line from the interview is "I think the shape is not so important, we played in the spaces..."
-
Our oldest grandson is on his way home from a trip to the Cern Hadron Collider, he's eighteen today and to think he's never seen the Villa beat Manure at Villa Park, he'll be as happy as a clam.
Was he there to learn more about the McGrath Particle?

Top class quote from a top class manager.
Gerrard would be going on about running up and down the pitch as much as I don't really want to keep referencing him on a day like this.
Shows the difference in game understanding though at crucial points and Emery has that in abundance.
-
That was just outstanding from the first whistle to the last. Had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of a Marseille fan after the game who was raving about how good Kamara is.
A top Sunday
-
All of the above, plus special mention to the Brentford duo - I thought Watkins and Konsa were back to their best today: the latter moving the ball forward and moving into overlap positions was fantastic to see, and the former looking to play colleagues in rather than having his head down and ploughing forwards. A massive shot of confidence to the squad.
Beating those tossers was a joy: now, let's make a home win routine.
-
Brilliant today, Unai was organising the shape from the sideline throughout. Makes a mockery of Gerrard continually saying we lack quality, no we lacked shape and decent coaching.
The Man Yoo fans sat around me did well to stay until the 90th minute, all Brummies of course.
So many good performances today but JJ stood out, brilliant how he kept finding space in midfield and for the last ten minutes dropped into right back in a back five when they had the ball before joining into the middle when we regained possesion.
-
Well that felt great! We played as well in the first 20 minutes as we’ve played for some time. The intensity both when we both had the ball and when we were defending was really high and we caused them all kinds of trouble. Thought we then came off the pace a bit as the half went on and they had a number of chances, even though the goal was a fluke.
Getting a 3rd early in the 2nd half was crucial and we didn’t really look too troubled after that. Thought Martinez made some important saves and commanded his box well, Konsa and Mings were solid, Cash and Digne did well in defence and going forward, Luiz and Dendoncker gave us solid platform in midfield, Bailey looked a real threat, Ramsey had a good game and Watkins looked more like his old self. Buendia had one of his curate’s egg performances, with some moments of sublime quality mixed with some bad mistakes. The subs all added a bit when they came on.
As for Unai Emery, he must be absolutely shattered after a game. He was on the touch line all game animatedly instructing the players, particularly when we were defending. Not a bad start, ending 27 years of mostly misery at home against that lot.
-
Ah, so thats what a decent side, well coached looks like.
Marvellous, I’ve seen us more swashbuckling, more like to score every time we attacked, more adventurous but rarely so comfortable, everyone seemed to know exactly what was expected of them and executed it perfectly.
I’d have normally have taken a draw 3.1 up but today we kept the ball flawlessly.
I’m a tincy bit impressed.
-
MOM. Dougie, utterly immense
-
Magnificent. A plan, tactics, substitutions, a fluidity to our play, pass and move, rarely troubled by United and superb shithousing by Martinez.
-
Early days but impressive improvement. Players and shape. We were totally in control but had to laugh at myself ( crapping myself) and the tension in the crowd.... with ten minutes to go and a history of collapse. Not this time. Impressive stuff.

I recently went on holiday in Spain, Truss was PM, Gerrard was our manager and I had a Villa mug (a gift), where your own name is on the shirt with the current players. My name was there along with Gabby, Dunn, N’Zogbia and Ireland.
I hated that mug. Anyway, I finally threw the mug away just before we left. That week Truss resigned and Gerrard sacked, a new elite manager installed, a new PM (albeit still shit), I come home and we beat Man Utd after 27 years.
Cheers to me for binning that awful mug.

Teams turning us around for kick off has backfired a bit lately hasn't it?
Perhaps that's the key to keep winning home games, shoot towards Holte first half and get quick starts from it.

Mate of mine is a Marseille season ticket holder. He was telling me the other day that Saliba and Kamara are both destined to be world class, and that he rates Kamara as the better player of the two .

Quite bad but not as bad as my line up. Mine has nearly been binned umpteen times but then it kept getting a reprieve due to it being a present.
It did feel good chucking it away.

I've got the same one as PWS, although all the shirts have faded almost completely over the years from being washed in the dishwasher. The Steven Gerrard 'Simply the Best' mug that was a Christmas present last year went in the skip this week.

Just home. Traffic foul. Roadworks interminable. Drivers manic. Floating on air. Loved every minute especially Emi shithousing them. Fucking bliss.
-
Ha ha! Simply the best. That’s quite a piss take. Who bought you that, Secret Santa?

Sensational passing and movement.Dougie and Leon outstanding but what was Konsa doing, playing one-twos,moving forward with the ball, accurate passing,a complete revelation.
What a waste of time the SG era was.

Loathe as I am to mention anything negative, I was amazed, as I walked up Witton Rd, Brookvale Rd, to see the WMP allow an artic to turn right out of one of the old IMI trading estates toward the ground blocking all the escaping traffic heading away and being a bit of a danger to pedestrians.
Traffic really needs halting to allow all to get away and back to normal faster

Honestly all over the pitch they had no answer. Every avenue was locked down - except for one, this right-midfield crossfield ball they got going, so what does Unai do? He brings on McGinn to play a deep left midfield thing, and boom they have no time on the right anymore.
Seriously, it might all go wrong, who knows, it's Villa, but what we saw from Emery today was a masterclass. Just so exciting.
-

Woke up this morning with a good feeling about today…. Stuck a few of quid on a 3-1 home win for old times sake!
Perfect day!
Also, special shout out for Unai. Solid tactics and seems a genuinely lovely bloke in the interviews he’s done - Really pleased that he’s ours.
Now let’s do those cretins again on their own patch in midweek!

I'll gues Martinez giving Bailey an elbow to the ribs and nothing happening from the ref.
Martinez assaulting Bailey. Goes into him once, then again and finally once more for good measure with an added elbow in the guts just in case.
Andy (Wythenshawe Red) Taylor trots over, checks on Leon and then carries on without speaking to Martinez, Tye linesman or the Stockley Park blind school.

I had Villa 2-0 , Bailey first goal scorer . Would have paid £150 for a £2 bet. I don't give a flying f*ck though. A win and the manner of the win is way more important.

Lee Hendrie on comms was loving Martinez endless assaults all over the pitch. I know he wants to sound impartial but was pretty bizarre.

That was the first time I’ve watched Villa beat Man Utd at home in a league game.
The last win was two months before I attended my first game.
-
Great day brilliant performance but what was going on with the traffic? It has never taken that long to get home, every road I tried seemed just rammed.
-
1hr 45mins to do 10miles today…
-
Never ceases to amaze me a decade of almost irrelevance and they are still just such a detestable, scumbag club. Them and their endless trail of sycophantic starf*ckers. It had that feel at times in the second half with ref and officials being blasé about some underhanded stuff.
Get a dog up ya Manure!
-

Handsworth was a bit busy but no major hold ups.

I’ve had a terrible week this week. Heath, work and personal. Was dreading this game but feel like we have our villa back and takes me back to that 12 year old under Little when villa were becoming a force of nature

Happy you had a good end to the week mate.

I guess that the trains were fecked because of the non-strike.
Perry Bar station had a sign saying no trains today

Cracking performance, players having confident and not scared

I wish that I’d filmed Emi’s antics before the free kick and then his celebration afterwards.
I’m still not sure if he was really helping to line up the two Villa players or engaging in shithousery to put off De Gea. Loved his dance back down the field in front of the Trinity.

Great win despite that appalling clown shoes of a referee.
Also, from my Witton Upper perch I have to say today's goal celebrations in the Holte End were a magnificent sight.

Not just a great result but also some of the best football we’ve played in a long time. Sexy football, might have a wank over match of the day later.

Thanks cd.
Could have genuinely been lining things up, but given that it was Emi, I’m leaning towards shithousery.

Got to say I wasn't too confident going into the game; they've been on a good run and I was hoping for an honourable draw despite fearing that, yet again, we might see them come back after conceding and then having to endure the sight of their obnoxious fans cavorting near, or even on, our pitch.
Little did I know how swiftly Unai would instil confidence, energy, flexibility and some clinical finishing. Amongst the moments to treasure were:
1. Scoring direct from a free kick. What a glorious strike that was.
2. Three fabulous goals without the atrocity that is VAR making us wait for confirmation.
3. Excellent performances all round. Especially delighted for Mings, who I thought was a colossus at the back.
The only blemish on a fantastic afternoon was the sight of middle age men wearing half and half scarves. Isn't it time for a banning order?
-
Ramsey said they have been doing tactics all week,it will never catch on
-
As I said earlier it's hard to name our best player, the only members of the starting line up that nobody has called as brilliant: Mings (tried to kill Ronaldo), Cash (solid if unspectacular) and Digne (scored).

Just as Man U fans are pathetic losers in life who have to pick a winning team to justify their tedious existence, so these YouTube fans are sad, lonely, arseholes who are desperate for attention. I'm just surprised that every Man U fan doesn't do it.

Yup also noted that, on most occasions wrapped around the neck of a gurning moron taking video footage of everything that moves, or doesn’t. I get these fuckers are a necessary evil if we want to compete at the top table but we should never cease looking down our noses at the tourist fuckers.

Don’t normally do this but it’s the perfect sunny morning to whack on the Villa shirt, walk up the street for my coffee and arrogantly swan about waiting for some plastic to spot me on their way to work, miserable on a Monday morning. Quite a few of them around, I know they’re out there. Ton of swagger with the shirt this morning.

One of many things that get on my wick about modern life. A special mention for the proliferation of people who think they are experts on tactics all of a sudden because they've got an ipad with players' names on. Fuck off.
-
It was superb from start to finish. The movement was sublime, we had players actually running into spaces off the ball!
The moment that best summed up the Emery effect for me was when, late on and defending a two goal lead against a so-called big team, Konsa calmly waltzed forward to provide an out ball for Sanson (I think) and ended up putting the ball into their box and winning a corner.
He must have been told to do stuff like that, he wouldn't just take it upon himself. Emery obviously said that if the space presents itself, use it and trust your teammates to cover for you.
That's what a proper coach does.

Superbly pejoratively put
-
We looked in control for large parts, the best I've seen us play for a long time.
Konsa and Mings looked confident when playing out from the back. Passes were crisp.
Dougie, Leon, JJ all went up several levels for me. Great to see Sanson get on....feels like a new signing!
McGinn looked great in the advanced role. He was everywhere, well done SJM!
Welcome and well done to Emery.

The control of the game we showed was excellent. Their goal was a fluke and after that, Martinez only had a couple of serious saves to make.
Everyone was brilliant but Luiz and Watkins stood out for me.

I said before the game this is the fixture I least enjoy and the one I would most like to win this season so I am chuffed. Pleased at the performance, the energy and some tactical intelligence too and I think every player played a part in a true team performance. Special mentions to Luke and Mings as I thought both were outstanding, and Dendoncker deserves praise for nullifying Eriksen.
Going back through past matches in my head I think that is the first time I have seen us beat them since the 1989 Boxing Day massacre as I was moved to France in 1988 and missed a few wins over them.
Actually looking forward to MOTD for once.
Oh yeah, and teams forcing us to attack the Holte in the first half is working a treat!

The "kids" are now middle-aged men. It's been a long 27 years!
I'd just finished university, and had moved up to Wigan with my then girlfriend, and started my first job. Fast forward 27 years and I'm 5 kids in.
Hopefully you’re not another 5 kids in before the next win over them!
-
Gabberflasted that the Manc ref and the gimp parade at Stockley Park didn't give a penalty when the ball rebounded off Digne in first half stoppage time.
It wasn't a penalty. But when has that ever stopped them.
-
At one point Eriksen went down trying to get the game stopped, and the bloke next to me was shouting ‘let him die’ before realising how unfortunate that sounds in the circumstances…
Every fanbase has its idiots.
-
That was nice intro prelude by MOTD team.

Ramsey played further forward as he always should have been and how well did he do, always thought he is the best finisher at the club. Liked the way Emery bought on a lot of the subs, even ten or so minutes allowed him to see them in action. For once it was worth getting up in the middle of the night.
-
United couldn’t live with us. We pulled them apart and they had no answers.
-
10 minutes in and we saw a structure, shape and style that we haven't seen for such a long time. Players knew their jobs, and where they needed to be.
Playing out from the back with a clearly planned way of doing it. The players had confidence that it would work, and it did.
Over the moon at that result.
-
The next home match isn’t til Boxing Day so no panic!

We played the ball out from the back with some intelligence and I think it was clearly following tactical instructions from Emery. However I think we were helped by the fact that their forwards, notably Renaldo, were lethargic in the press which gave us the time to pass around them.
-
Their fans, who mostly seem to be from Africa on various social media platforms, are ripping into Ten Hag and Ronaldo. It’s a joy to read.
Try not to laugh..
This is amazing
-
I can't remember a better villa match of the day section in recent memory - we beat man United and the narrative wasn't that they were shit, it was all about our quality. We have a proven winner as a manager (finally), I'm over the moon lads
-
Absolutely deserved everything we got today, to a man everyone was brilliant, clearly executed the plan….as a fanbase I think we will have to get used to a team that tries to keep the ball a bit more and not get inpatient.
Ramsey taking all the plaudits on motd2, quite rightly as he was excellent but special mention to both centre backs, Konsa was as good as he has been for 18 months & Mings was an absolute beast.
Great to see Bailey back to properly sprinting, looks a proper player & a real threat.
Referee, was poor but failed to give them a penalty so will be off the payroll.
See a lot of their fans blaming fatigue, wrong! Their manager picked such a disrespectful line up, Casemiro + 5 attackers got what it deserved…was prime Gerrard nonsense selection…he picked a captain who walked out on the team a fortnight ago…bunch of arrogant tosspots…jog on!
Same again on Thursday boys!
-
Konsa storming forward to win a corner on the right wing at 3-1 with 10 mins to go was a real indication today, we fucking mean business now.
-
The last win was two months before I attended my first game.
You were almost exactly a year ahead of me, then.

Oh yeah, and teams forcing us to attack the Holte in the first half is working a treat!
I think that was our choice. Man U kicked off first half. I don’t think you elect to kick off and choose ends. Maybe it’s a captain EMI thing
-
It was Brentford's choice in that match.
-
Most likely. Maybe we remembered the Brentford game and decided to replicate it. Footballers are superstitious sorts.

Would be interesting to see the stats from the first 20 or so minutes, as I reckon that Martinez would have been right up there in terms of number of passes made in that period.

I’ve just got home from work and gone straight into MOTD2 absolutely brilliant, I was convinced we would get a result today. I said in the pre match us against them is the biggest game in football for me so I’ve had a smile on my face all afternoon

Can't tell you passing stats, but I checked the BBC App at about 20 mins, and we had about 50% possession, 4 shots, 2 on target and they had 0 for shots and corners.

I normally hate gimmicky fan stuff, but that is a thing of beauty.

Martinez’s juggling of the ball with his head in the first half was a thing of beauty
-
The Steven Gerrard 'Simply the Best' mug that was a Christmas present last year went in the skip this week.
Sounds more like a "Rangers" mug than a Villa one. Was it a bitter Glaswegian that gave it to you after he left them?
The 'Follow Follow' on the handle was purely a coincidence.

I just hope beijingred4lyfe is doing ok.

I wish that I’d filmed Emi’s antics before the free kick and then his celebration afterwards.
I’m still not sure if he was really helping to line up the two Villa players or engaging in shithousery to put off De Gea. Loved his dance back down the field in front of the Trinity.

I'm not one for time-wasting and other shithousery, whether it's us or the opponents, but that is pretty hilarious.

Mings and Ronaldo
https://twitter.com/ravihappy935/status/1589303628225220609
I didn't think that little prick elbowing Bailey was a red card personally, but that lizard & his Texas-sized Adam's Apple definitely deserved one. Since when is grabbing someone by the head and wrestling them to the floor not 'violent conduct'?
I was also puzzled by Ramsey's penalty shout. The ref gave a goal kick, so he didn't think the Man Utd player(s) had touched the ball, but there was clearly contact and yet he didn't book Ramsey for diving.
Not saying I would've given it, but I hate double standards, and you'll see softer penalties awarded multiple times every weekend.

That fucking knob with the Portuguese and Canadian flags behind him. Fuck off!

Like they're watching a war crime. This is meant to be a sport, you glory-hunting fucking twats, the notion that you might lose should not be a surprise.
After the bollocks you gave me, year after year; wearing a Villa scarf to school the day after the latest humiliating 2-3 loss and you, having spent fewer days in Manchester than my ballsack, trying to give it the big'un, pointing and making shit jokes. All because your fucking fictional uncle once worked in Manchester, providing you with a dubious reason to support the most successful club at the time.
Nothing to do with being a small-dicked ****** who wants to end up on the winning side, no matter what, even though it means absolutely nothing.
May you all fucking die, you soulless fucking cuntbags.

There are few things funnier than that weird high pitched voice that some Mancs have.
I've just watched the highlights again and noticed Buendia getting out of the way when the ball fell to Ramsey. He knew what was coming. Smart lad.

I could not pick a Man of the Match, I just thought the team were fantastic
Lets hope that this is the start of something special under Unai

And according to Gerrard we lacked quality, brilliant yesterday.

Big result yesterday which doesn't suit the media narrative not featuring on MSM paper back page (or the first two inside pages for that matter...)

I'd say it was definitely shithousery, given that the goal was scored in the righthand corner.
-
It was superb from start to finish.
Yes, and Kamara just slotted in at the back.

Video removed, what was it?
I'll gues Martinez giving Bailey an elbow to the ribs and nothing happening from the ref.
So who removed it and why? How is an incident in a football match deemed offensive or racist etc? Very odd.
-
It's nothing to do with being offensive or racist, it'll be the Premier League not liking clips of their matches being shown for free by unapproved sources.
-
VAR has just chalked off our 3rd and awarded Man Utd a penalty.
and they were ordered to play the 6 mins extra time after the Villa fans went home and the Man U fans were kept in. Final result Villa 6 Man U 2. LOL
Yeah I'd forgotten about that. Where did 6 minutes injury time appear from? Talk about giving them their customary leg up from the officials. Well fuck the officials, fuck the sky six and fuck man yoo. It didn't work this time did it you bunch of arseholes.

I'm a miserable bastard. I don't find them funny, they're man babies and that's why they chose to support the most successful team in history because emotionally they can't handle defeats. Imagine supporting Villa and smashing things up every time we lost. You'd be living in what looked like a ww2 bomb site.

Totally agree. I much preferred the era when my unreasonable raging after a Villa defeat would have calmed down somewhat before I got home, had my tea and starting writing a letter to Charles Buchan’s Football Monthly.

First I heard of it was when it aimed at Adebayo Akinfenwa last season and he confronted the fans singing it at him. From what I am aware, it was totally unsubstantiated in his case and therefore completely out of order. Thought I heard the Leeds fans singing something about Jurgen Klopp being a paedophile at the weekend, which again is totally unsubstantiated as far as I'm aware and out of order.

I don’t think you’re in the minority. Whatever you think of Utd this shouldn’t be sung at anyone, especially a man who lost a child not long ago.
I found it disgusting if I’m honest.

I'm really glad I have no idea what this 'song' is.

If you pay someone off so they'll drop their accusation that you're a sex offender, don't be surprised if people think you're a sex offender.

That song sounds shit.

Although on the other hand, the accuser refused to tell the police who the alleged attacker was, or where it took place. She also immediately launched civil proceedings rather than pressing criminal charges.
-
If she didn't tell the police who the accused was, how did they know it was him and why did he settle? Assume you know more about this than I do as I only read a headline, admittedly.
I know you can argue that it's a lot less hassle for someone to pay to make an allegation go away when money is no object, but you could say the same about Michael Jackson and he was definitely a wrong un.
-
That match was absolutely brilliant on so many levels.
VP was rocking;
At long, long last a home league win over the biggest, corrupt, self-entitled, glory hunting cnuts in history;
A beautiful free kick goal infront of the Holte that was just poetry in motion;
A goal from one of our own;
Movement, passing, energy - they didn't know what hit them, didn't have time to wave imaginary notes at the ref before they were 2-0 down;
One of their 'greats' a sad shell of a player ;
The song 'Glory hunters...support your local team' - hilarious;
Unai kicks off the new era with a MAGNIFICENT win;
All the Glory hunting twats at work are hiding from me;
Gerrard shown up for being a plank as these are the same players;
Im counting hours down to the next match;
Mrs Remy said the earth moved for her last night;
I'm watching the goals over and over again;
The youtube videos of those plastic twats is funnier than a Comedy marathon;
The montage on MOTD was beautiful;
Were about to do something special - I can feel it!
-

Difficult one I guess. I think the civil claim was for something like $40m, but he settled for a few hundred thousand, ie a few days' pay. Choice between definitely clearing your name but it taking weeks/months and having your private life splashed everywhere, or just paying her off and making it go away. Look at the Ched Evans case, he was convicted, but then it was overturned.

Has he ever been to Old Trafford? Or Manchester? Could he even point to Manchester on a map? It's always noticeable in the ground that when they start singing "Manchester, Manchester" it's a lot quieter than the other songs they sing.
I avoid speaking to those kind of Manchester United and Liverpool 'fans' about football as they are almost exclusively bell ends.

This article gives a great deal of context to how she acted, and asserts that HE has acknowledged that she said no, he carried on because she didn’t actually scream, and he said sorry afterwards.
Still hate the song though, because I believe those that sing it are far less interested in women’s rights than trivialising the trauma of a woman to take the piss out of an opposition player.

Typical.
I really despise gloryhunting, I really do. You see it around here with Juve and Inter 'fans' from absolutely nowhere to do with them. Why 'support' a team that has no need of any support? Because for the gloryhunter it's the club that's supporting them, their ego, their vanity. Fuck 'em.

I don’t really have an issue with people choosing to support a particular club, particularly where it’s something that they decided when they were a child. My issue is more where people chop and change - once you’ve decided who you support then you stick with it through thick and thin. That said it doesn’t annoy me, I kind of pity them - how much joy can you get from a win if you don’t really feel a connection with the club?
-
If I stopped conversing with Man Utd fans I wouldn’t have been speaking to my parents most of my cousins and nephews and where I’m living now probably 50% of my friends some of them best friends
-
But that's fine, like. Family reasons, local reasons, these are completely legitimate reasons to support someone (I mean I'm not from Brum but my family's WM and been Villa since the founding).
And yeah, if anything's not worth losing friends over it's football, if politics and religion can be overcome then, I mean to say, come on. But I watched this game with United fans from Lazio and Houston, TX, the former of whom had a family connection but the latter of whom has never even set foot on British soil. I just find it bizarre.
-
My nephew asked a Brummie Red who was telling him that he should support a decent team how often he had been to Old Trafford. The answer was "where's that?"
I think I've mentioned before a bloke I worked with close to forty years ago, when grounds weren't full and you could part with your two quid, even less than that at OT, on the gate, whose "dream" it was to see his chosen team. I said why don't you just do what I do, jump on a train and go. I think I might as well have suggested flying to the moon.
-
Again, I'm sure I've said this before but a particularly obnoxious even by their standards one drank in the same pub in town as me. Every year he enquired about a season ticket and was told there was a waiting list but he never joined it because then he might have had to buy one. When we played them in the League Cup 1992, he said he was going in the Holte. At the final whistle me and my mate ran down to Witton island and caught a number seven just as it was leaving. It was the easiest I've ever got away from Villa Park; it couldn't have been twenty minutes after the match ended when we walked up to the bar and there he was, with a virtually empty glass. "I left at half-time," he said. "I couldn't see."
-

Foreign people picking an English team is fine though I guess, no different from people in the UK choosing to follow an NFL or basketball team.

Sure, but it's a bit tragic to come across some English Yankee who's never even set foot in New York, isn't it? Like the guy in Partridge getting a Dr Pepper from the cooler.

There were a few lads in junior school that followed Everton as this was the mid 80's and they were shit hot. Most of them switched to us by the Big Ron era, but I know a couple of lads from the Bromford that stuck with it and used to go up quite regularly, and I saw one of them a couple of years back and he's still going now. That I have some respect for.
-
Best friend follows them and is a season ticket holder, fortunately he talks commonsense and he's no problem and he likes the Villa
-
I think I've mentioned before I went to school with a guy in the early 80s who claimed to support Liverpool and Manchester United and also had Forest and Southampton kits just to cover all bases. The last time I saw him (from a distance but it was definitely him) he had a beer gut bulging out of a Small Heath retro penguin shirt getting off a train at Bordesley station. At least he had finally accepted his true colours.
-
Someone on twitter has found the clip of Anthony Taylor sending off Mings against Palace in that Boxing Day game a couple of years back for bumping into Zaha.
But they're not biased.
-
On the glory hunting thing I do get it when there is genuine family connection, although I think a lot of people make this up - mostly their Dad's will never been to old trafford either. Funny how you don't get many Norwich fans in the Midlands because their Dad supported them (or even Newcastle, Leeds etc)
But without the family thing, I just can't understand why someone would support a team with another City's name. You're from a Birmingham suburb but choose to support Liverpool or Manchester United when you have no connection to the City whatsoever. Most probably haven't even been to the City let alone the ground. Why not just go the whole hog and support Brazil or Italy in international football?
Also, if you're not really into football, why bring your kid up as a Liverpool fan (as one of my mates has), which means they'll probably never see them live or if they do it ill be once in a blue moon, when he could have jumped on board with Villa or even the Baggies or Wolves?
I don't get it. And yes, it probably pisses me off more than it should.
-
As I’ve said before most of my family support Man United, mum and dad were actually season-ticket holders later on
Doesn’t stop me hating Man United and everything they stand for with a great passion in fact it probably makes it worse
Only team that would top them would be Liverpool and that’s because I’m a 70s kid, and the Liverpool of the 70s were the same as Man United of the 90s, bloody unbearable
-
A bloke I used to know supported them but only in a keep an eye on results way rather than go and watch them. He grew up in a strict religious household to the extent that they weren’t allowed to watch TV on Sunday. When he started getting interested at school he read about the Munich disaster and it turned out it happened on the day he was born so chose them as a result.
-
Tragedy-hunter!
-
I think back in the day they won a lot of sympathy votes based on that tragedy, that were transferred on as a family tradition.

We weren’t allowed to watch telly, go to the shop, or do much of anything on Sunday when I was a kid apart from go to church
My Dad was the church minister though
-
Lad a knew at school used to follow Swansea when they were playing in the bottom divisions at The Vetch, still see him occasionally and he still goes and has seen them win cup finals, play in the Premier League and Europe. Huge respect for sticking with them.
-
Unbeknownst to me at the time until he was seriously ill at work and died the following day, I used to work with the son of one of the Busby Babes survivors.
-
In mid 00s one season 04/05 I think I decided to do some ground hopping following relationship breakup.
A then 4th tier match between Boston United and Bury was a choice one Saturday.. Long train journey from Nottingham (where I lived) to Boston.
Some Bury fans got talking to a North London bloke who said he was a Spuds fan when younger but had switched to ManUtd when Premier League started. Obviously he'd never been to a match at OT. Felt sorry for Fergie as press picked on him.
Let's say the Bury fans were very unimpressed.

Surely you were at least 40 in the 1970s? 😳

Any legitimate family connection is fine, but as you say, it's funny that all these people had fathers/uncles who were born or worked in Manchester, rather than, say, Hull. I remember one going on in our sixth form common room about how he's a 'true' Man Utd fan because he lived there in a terraced house with his parents until he was 8. He was irritating me, so I said, "oh yeah? I have family in Manchester*, know it quite well, whereabouts?"
Silence.
"Erm, central..."
"Yeah? A terraced house in the city centre? Which street?"
Silence.
"Old Trafford Street..."
It pisses me off far more than it should as well, and at my school there were indeed plenty who supported Brazil/Argentina/France in international football. After England lost to Brazil in 2002 it got quite nasty because there were several lads who came in wearing Brazil shirts or carrying Brazil flags.
Most of them were Asian, and I don't want to speculate because it gets into nasty Norman Tebbit territory, but from my experience a higher proportion of Brummies of Asian descent support Man Utd or someone like that, than other ethnic groups. Whether that is because there is greater identification with family roots and not geography, or their families maybe weren't welcomed very warmly and so feel a lack of connection to their city, I don't know.
It's not really relevant, but I always love seeing Asian faces down VP because it means we're engaging with and appealing to the local community.
*I don't.

No guessing about it- it is fine!! And it's no different to people from the UK choosing to follow a football team from overseas.

talking to one Malaysian girl in the holte end with her partner, she was telling me that she loved Aston Villa when she lived in Malaysia,or as she politely put it "I f**king love Aston Villa"sisters were a lawyer and a scientist, great to see people from the ethnic communities down the matches
-
It never pisses me off more to see Africans and south East Asian people following the sky four for no other reason than they’re successful and are on telly a lot.
-
Was it the Ghanaian Lions who sang "Leeds are falling apart, again" in donated Villa shirts earlier this year when we did the 3-0?! It was wonderful.

Exactly.
These people with no geographical link with a club, it's not like many of them are plumping for the shit nothing clubs like Grimsby, Mansfield Town or Albion.
It is always the successful ones.
-

Agreed. I don't follow much European football, but the two teams I look out for are Fiorentina (because of their colours) and Freiburg, because I visited and loved the city. They're both pretty shite, but who cares?
I met a lad at university from Devon, his local team were Exeter and he supported them, but he wanted some kind of investment in the newfangled PL, and from a child his PL team was Sheff Weds because he liked the owl. That's something I could believe and get behind.

Haha, reminds me of an incident with two Everton fans after the second leg of the 1984 League Cup semi-final. I was with a few lads including a well-known local author who cuts a rather intimidating figure to more or less anybody, and he was grilling them.
“Where are you from?” he asked.
Scouser affecting terrible Brummie accent: “Birmingham”.
Local author: Which part?
Scouser: Wolverhampton.
Other scouser, knowing the jig was up: We’ve got money!
I said it was out of order beating them up, but as my author friend said: they’d do it to you Perc.

Not everyone. Some of us are stone cold Brits, like those twats hanging the 'Villa Loyal' flag from the Holte, with yer man Charles in the middle of it.
These things are important, you fucking anarchist!
True Brits were born here, and hate blacks, Irish & dogs. The rest - those Brits who, y'know, accept & welcome people from other countries & cultures - are liberal weaklings who must be defeated.

*I don't.
talking to one Malaysian girl in the holte end with her partner, she was telling me that she loved Aston Villa when she lived in Malaysia,or as she politely put it "I f**king love Aston Villa"sisters were a lawyer and a scientist, great to see people from the ethnic communities down the matches
We're all from ethnic communities!
Must be a hangover from the civil war, when Sir Thomas Holte was a Royalist asset.

Silence.

It never pisses me off more to see Africans and south East Asian people following the sky four for no other reason than they’re successful and are on telly a lot.
Take it you would have an issue with those in Australia
And New Zealand as well ?
What about europeans ? The americas and the rest of Asia.
Not sure why you're choosing to single out Africans and South East asia!
-
It's a good job there was no internet around in 1960-63ish, you would be amazed at the level of fawning by the media over 'Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur'. As anyone who was around at that time will surely attest to.
-
It’s an interesting debate, why does anybody support any team?? For me my dad was a fan and he started taking me from the age of 8. We lived in Kingstanding but I moved away with the RAF but my son also supports Villa as does his son having never lived in Birmingham. I’d like to think I’d have supported Villa no matter where I came from. But what if you came from a town with no team and no family football background?? How would you choose a team to support??

It is an interesting debate and one possibly deserving of its own thread, “Why do you support The Villa ?”. I live roughly halfway between Manchester and Oldham. My dad follows Man Utd (he’s from Newton Heath) and my mum is Manchester City (she’s from Levenshulme, a stones throw from where Maine Road stood). I don’t know which way I would have leaned but my fate was decided by seeing a picture of Ray Graydon, resplendent in claret & blue with a rampant lion upon his chest. To quote David Bradley, “you don’t choose Aston Villa, Aston Villa chooses you”.
-
It's an interesting one, as i would loosely be described as someone who supports villa despite no strong links to birmingham. The reason i started following villa was a combination of being a good team in the early 90s and having a number of irish players at the time. Being given a load of villa match programmes by Eamonn Deacy (through my neighbour) helped solidify my support, so was hooked from then. I think it's fair to say that i couldn't be described as a glory hunter, but i'm a bt less inclined to have a go at out of town support for other teams, as it would be very hypocritical.

Depends on the reason. If you just pick a team because they win all the time, you're still a wrong 'un.
Freiburg are second in the league, you ol' glory hunter!

This season has been a one-off decent one, admittedly 😉

I've often felt sorry for Glory Hunters, they miss out on so much, in particular that feeling of a connection, of local pride, working a living alongside your deadly rivals. The latter is a double edge sword, you're sure to run into a 'Nose after one of their victories but then the reverse makes it all worth it.
I remember travelling back down the M6 in my first season following us away as a green 16 year old and seeing the illuminated Tandy sign at Walsall indicating that we were nearly home, swiftly followed by the Rotunda as we swept into Town proud as a peacock with 3 points in the bag. And now 30 odd years later that wonderful view of the City from the crest of Selston Road, stunning at night and of course made all the more beautiful by a win, toasted in one of the City's most historic pubs.
Bumping into Villa fans on holiday and discovering that they drink local or live around the corner but you've never met them before. People hearing your accent and immediately enquiring about which team you support. The badinage exchanged at work and in the pub with rivals down to the most pathetic arguments about where the support comes from and who the fuck drinks in Town.
With respect to those who fell in love with the Club from afar, part of supporting Villa for me is being from Brum but for all of us it's the downs that make the ups so marvelous, something you actively avoid in glory hunting.
-
I don't feel the slightest bit sorry for a Glory Hunter . They made their bed they can lie in it.
The bullshit that most of them come out with as well boils my piss.
" My dogs auntie had a flat in Salford in the 70's."
I can talk to a mancunian United supporter if I have too ( even if they are so far up the own arses) , but have no wish to talk football with a Glory Hunter.
-
Ther is a huge difference between non local supporters and the typical glory hunter.
The serpentine car park on match day would have coaches from Evesham Pershore Moreton in the Marsh Cheltenham Leamington Spa Stafford the list goes on.
Those traveler's passed and had been passed on the legacy of supporting The Villa.
It’s something to be proud of that Villa have always been the team of the Midlands.

All three of his books are fantastic, but King City contains a fantastic charcater with movie star looks and a heart of gold.
-
Re Nev's point about people hearing your accent and almost the first thing they ask is are you Blues or Villa?
When I had shoulder surgery earlier this year, when I was taken into the ante-room to be prepped, after speaking to me one of the surgeons asked 'was I from Birmingham?' I said I was and the next question was am I Villa or Blues? He's Irish and told me his brother lived in Kings Heath. I never found out if either of them had any particular allegiance because at that point the anesthetist put me under.

I've often felt sorry for Glory Hunters, they miss out on so much, in particular that feeling of a connection, of local pride, working and living alongside your deadly rivals.
It's pity for me and thankful in a way too. I guess it's hard work being semi-detached from your city to the extent that you need to support a team from another because they are more often than not successful. This is understandable in children as they haven't or don't see sense till 10 or 11 to develop the connection. The thankful bit is that if they continue in their pursuit down the glory path they are more often than not friendless where they live and even if they have acquaintances there is always a hint of suspicion about them which means thankful again that their personalities/thoughts/ideas etc have no bearing on you.
This is why good parenting is so important.

Late to the party I know, but 3 days in and I still have a Ready Brek glow on thinking about Sunday (I got the darkening skies courtesy of GMT after the game bit right). I was convinced they'd do us, by hook or by crook, yet again, until the final whistle went, then I permitted myself to celebrate while my heart-rate went back to normal!
I'd love us to do it again tomorrow at theirs, but with all those London clubs going out, the media will still want one of their pets to prevail, so I see a dodgy VAR incident like the FA Cup last season. :'(
-
They can’t rely on VAR tonight. It isn’t in use in this round of matches.
