See that reflects the whole club right now - defeatist. Get a fucking grip and fight more.

Everyone on planet Earth who knows Aston Villa expected us to lose today. It was a bonus that there wasn't an infuriating robbery from officials, no pen , red card or comedy blunder.

Emery: "We did things good, but it was not enough. We are recovering confidence and working on some things in our structure.

"Today, the result was in my expectation. They are in a good moment and they played an intelligent match. But we did compete and we can feel better."

Fucking hell Unai. You expected us to lose?

we never win there at full strength, the match script played out as I expected too.

Not stopping play and booking Yoro rather than giving an advantage that stopped existing as soon as Abraham was on the ground, ten seconds before their goal wasn't Taylor's finest moment in refereeing football matches.

Self fulfilling prophecy..  ever since back when he said  we were not even contenders to be top six let alone title contenders..

He’s an old fashioned tactician who doesn’t understand the power of “messaging/ feel good factor” etc.

This might sound harsh, and I love him, but I think, in the league, Unai is feeling sorry for himself. Our team and performances are a reflection on that - he needs to snap out of it.

Absolutely everybody connected with the club at every level expected us to lose, because it is what we do here and have done, with minimal exceptions for 40 odd years in Manchester as a whole, never mind Old Trafford. A defeat being within the expectation is not particularly wild.

Unai just seems to be in a dark place right now. In a way we all are watching it fall apart. Let’s hope we can get past Lille.

Dark place, all falling apart. A bit dramatic.

I agree with that. I also feel that his obsession with 'structure' and 'shape' is blinding him to the inadequacies of some individual players, who he sees taking up the positions he wants them to, though not doing anything remotely useful when they are in those positions.

He quite obviously decided Thursday night is more important as no Torres or Maatsen.

I don't think that's true at all.

He sounds the same as ever, not too low or high. He's wedded to his belief in his structure and it comes across that if that structure is followed more consistently than it is at the moment, that's all he can ask for.

I get that - it’s still a weird thing for the manager to actually say.

Yes, agree here.

Full faith in Emery to get through this, but we are in a really crap run of form and it seems to be lasting forever.

Just want to go on record that no matter how shit we are right now, Emery has enormous amounts of credit in the bank, and have full confidence in him being the man to turn it around.
