I think the fact we’re so constrained on spending creates a big risk with keeping Unai.

So he has to go to a club with minimal financial constraints ie. A big club or a perceived big club. The problem with such clubs is his lack of control of that club. Name me one of those clubs who would give UE a blank piece of paper like our owners did?

Another thing he would hate is the press intrusion. He just about manages the inane clichéd pressers and post-match interviews at Villa but you can tell he holds them with a withering disregard.

At Madrid, quotes from him taken out of context or comments from "experts" about him judging every facet of his management and personality would be screaming from Marca et al on a daily basis.

He might be at an age where he just can't be fucked with that level of unwanted interference.

The truth is none of us really know whether he would take it. Hopefully they won't offer him the job, though if he did go there it would be less of a kick in the bollocks than seeing him leave us for Man U or Liverpool, for instance.

If Pep goes that would be a possibility.

I think it’s more possible than Real Madrid

City are just about the only club that are an obvious 'step up' (yuk) that would give him all the control, support an money he would want.

In fact, it makes so much sense that the only time i get remotely worried about him leaving is when discussions about Pep's future come up.  If they come for him in the summer the only thing thats keeping  him here is the 'unfinished business' angle.
