If it was offered, I wouldn't bet against him taking it, its the biggest club in the world and he's the best manager but I dont think it would be a good fit for either party. RM have just sacked a systems based coach as it didn't work with all the dressing room egos, and UE clearly doesn't enjoy the media attention and wants to be the sole decision maker.
Agree with this, I don’t think it would end well but I still think he’ll take it.

It’s Real Madrid. I don’t think they will go for him, for a whole variety of reasons. If they do though, I think he will go. Twice this month about a player leaving I have seen quotes from him saying it is not my choice I would like to keep him but it is a good deal for the club. I think he is starting to feel the frustration with the rules.

From X, probably already posted elsewhere, but another Emery record.

Aston Villa have won seven games in a row at Villa Park in major European competition for the first time in their history:

◉ 4-2 vs. Celtic
◉ 3-0 vs. Club Brugge
◉ 3-2 vs. PSG
◉ 1-0 vs. Bologna
◉ 2-0 vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv
◉ 2-1 vs. Young Boys
◉ 3-2 vs. RB Salzburg

He's broken more records than a Disco Demolition night at Comiskey Park.

Spoken to a Basque colleague this morning. In summary he’d be very surprised if Emery ended up at RM.

And in detail? is it a football think, a career thing, a control thing or an ethnicity thing?
He's on the shortlist appratenly.

If you read the Balague book, you'd be amazed he would go to RM based on the loss of control that he'd have to endure. Also, the Arse / PSG experiences convinced him that the management of so many large egos is not what he signed up for in football.

No great insight, just confirmation of all the reasons we’ve discussed that it’s less than likely to happen. His description of RM was ‘the vipers nest’, although in his opinion Unai’s Basque heritage wouldn’t prevent him taking the job if he really wants it, the deciding factor will be Unai’s ego.

I read something about him wanting all the people around him, and a foundation so that he could survive the inevitable dips that come with building something.

I think we have won 21 out of the last 28 games - and Xavi Alonso got sacked and won 20 out of 28 games.

Whilst it wouldnt shock me if he went - he would be giving up 3 or 4 years of foundations that he would need to do again when RM sack him / he leaves.  And there are not many clubs that would give him what we offer.

Ultimately - all Villa and the owners can do it make it as appealling as possible to stay - and I am sure they will do that.

I watched a video by The Athletic on why Alonso got the sack,(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5EKznYb5Ng) and two reasons given were the players hated the video analysis and the strict tactical instructions. Both petty central to Emery's methods. We've seen the way he goes nuclear on the touchline when someone isn't playing to instruction. That wouldn't fly with those prima donnas. If they rejected it from a club legend in Alonso, they won't accept it from Emery.

They'd be mad to hire him, and he'd be mad to go. Can't see it happening.

It would be a real heartbreaker if he left us for Madrid. Before long, we'd be free fallin'.

Rise of the villains is an audible book on Spotify
I started listening to it other day as I was driving about, but I’ve only got to the bit where he’s told Newcastle to fuck off so far

I'd be amazed if he turned it down. It's easily the most prolific managerial position in world football and even if he 'fails', just being afforded the opportunity would be an honor.

There are many reasons he wouldn't make a great fit, all of which have been listed here and elsewhere, but it's Real Madrid...
