I completely agree. Fortunately, a quick Google suggests we aren't paying Sancho and Elliot anywhere near that amount, so we don't need to worry ourselves with those kinds of comparisons.

From what I read, we're paying Sancho 80% of his wages (which I think will work at around £160,000), and Elliot was on £65,000 a week at Liverpool, so we'll be matching that, but you'd have thought it will go up when we sign him next summer.

It's all too much for what they've contributed so far, but hopefully that will change pretty quickly. The one thing we need to do is ensure we're getting value out of these wages, because everything unravels when we drop down the league.

Only 7 teams have conceded less goals than us so far, which means our defence is working ok. The obvious issue is up front and given we have kept Watkins and Rogers and changed everyone else they just need some time to settle in and for Emery to work his magic....

We'd already played 3 of our 4 games before those players arrived, and then had the international break when most of our squad was away. We just need to give Emery some time with them, and this week will see an improvement, and we will score.

Yep, that's what I can find as well, so about 150-160k cheaper (or £8m a year).

They're just down as "loan", as were Rashford and Asensio. We loan loads of players out too, who are just listed as "loan" so going to assume that they roughly balance out.

That's a big assumption. We tend to loan-in good players and loan-out shit or young ones.

That may be true, but there's no figures on transfermarkt and I can't be arsed researching it any more thoroughly than that.  I'd think any loan fee is unlikely to be in the tens-of-millions range, so the figures aren't going to be massively off regardless.

Can I just add that in 1989-90 and 1992-93 Villa only won 5 points from the first 6/7 games, and finished 2nd in both seasons.  Champions League here we come.

I can’t help but feel that our preparation for the season has been poor even with all the off field nonsense. We need all that out of our system and to now focus.
