Just out of perverse interest, when on here did we start thinking Sherwood had to go or we'd drop? In my mind it was the Leicester game, but I'm wondering if any of the things we said in the early stages of that season were more panicked than they are at the moment.
Long time ago, mate; totally different context.
Whatever happened at the end of last season, Emery has to find a way to close that out and get the squad focussed on the here and now. Clery's video demonstrates the tactical challenge, and Emery et al need to play the players that can offer a different approach, and / or continue our current game-plan with much more precision and energy.
- Is there a player from the U21 or U18 that can deliver more out-and-out wing play than Malen or Guessand, for example?
- Should we play a 3xCB set-up for a while, leaving Cash out and giving Maatsen more gametime?
- Where is the creative passing going to come from when Tielemans is unavailable?
- Can Guessand play better in a central role, playing right on the shoulder?
Emery spends 22 hours a day living and breathing the club and the game but we are not seeing any tactical variety or any player-improvement. We're clearly not seeing any lift in morale and energy.
It's on him to get things going in a better direction!
