Clery is pretty much spot on with that video. No easy solutions for Unai, but think it is time for Maatsen to have a run and Torres to see if he can play himself back into form. Not trying to re-start the boring Mings/Torres debate, but we have to move the ball out of defence and through the lines quicker. Seems like Guessand is going to be an important player and whether he likes it or not, we’re going to need Rogers to play out wide, with Malen as an another option, with Elliot the 10 behind Watkins.

With Sancho, McGinn and/or Malen on much earlier if the front 4 isn't working. Harsh on McGinn and Mings but, as good as they both are, they don't quite work in our team. I'd be tempted to try Mings at RCB at times though because he's easily the best aerial defender we have.

Each to their own I guess but I think that is as weak a defence as we can put out. They are all international players and yet struggle to gel, lack concentration, lose their markers too easily.  They should be so much better than they often show even though they are decent players.

I think having an Elliot (or even a Tielemans) at 10 rather than a Rogers could be a good way of getting an extra man in midfield, which could also possibly take the pressure off Torres when he has the ball.

I get that completely, but the alternative is what we have now. Which has been reasonably solid apart from the Palace game, though Martinez made a big contribution on Saturday, but Unai’s system requires beating the press with quick precise balls out of defence into midfield and using the left back as an overload wide player.
Its not the only problem but the play is so ponderous coming out from the back at the moment, either we try different players there that we know if they are on form, can pick a pass most defenders can’t (Torres) and is lighting quick (Maatsen) or he finds a new tactical default.

Extremely harsh on McGinn and Mings with both being our best players so far this season, is this how you reward players who actually give a shit?. Then you have without them no leadership on the pitch. Guessand should be on the bench and Malen playing on the right, he makes things happen up front which is more than can be said of the rest. Guessand even in France was work in progress, here in the PL he'll need time to adapt but we need to keep him interested.

Right now nobody knows anything and hopefully Unai is the exception but I can't stop thinking what Clery said, we've bought good players just not in the positions we need. I'll resign myself to the old chestnut of first win the midfield battle. When we do we normally go on to win.

Ill caveat this with fact that i really like Mings and love everything he’s done for us, but I really don’t think he has been that good this season. He’s passing out from the back was really poor against Newcastle, Palace and Brentford. I didn’t see the Everton game.

I would hope that Torres passes the ball a little bit quicker than Tyrone. This is one advantage of having Torres in the side with Maatsen at left back.

If the positions they play have players that should enable our gameplan to work better then yes, harsh but probably needed. McGinn will probably play in place of Youri for a while anyway and I already said I'd look at Mings playing with Torres at times as well so it's not like I'm saying we should never play either of them ever again.

As for winning the midfield, that's exactly why these changes make sense, a right winger who will hug the touchline and a centre back who can bypass the midfield and find said winger with passes is the easiest way to stop teams crowding us out in there.

On Malen/Guessand I'm ok with either, I just think the defensive work against Everton puts Guessand a little ahead in terms of which Emery will trust to start.
