Yep, if we had some really good defenders like for example Inter players who only conceded one goal in 8 games in the league stage, we wouldn't be down 5 goals against PSG.

It's just as important to factor in the leadership and communication we have with Mings at the back which should not be underestimated, plus a bit of grit too . My concern with Torres is we will always be vulnerable to conceding With him , I mean palace the 1st goal Jesus and the PSG games , we were 1-5 down at one stage again through a poor defence that lacked a leader in there .
Ty picked up the ball vrs Brugges, there you go.

This has to be the longest running battle since the battle of Verdun.

More like the Hundred Years' War at this stage.

I love Mings and quite like Pau, but kind of hoping we sell them both.

No we’ve never been good enough to have a squad as good as this in my 35 years down the Villa. Back up Centre backs were just that back ups. The only time we got close was when we had Cahill knocking about and the managerial genius that was MON decided he wasn’t good enough. <facepalm emoji>

The problems with our defence aren't anything like as simple as the Mings vs Pau debate is trying to make it.

What we can say is that Konsa is a better player with Mings alongside him and all of our defenders are better with Kamara holding in front of them. They also all do better when the keeper commands his box, which Emi can be a little hit and miss on and Olsen is terrible at.

We also need to get a 4th centre back to replace Carlos/Disasi (assuming we don't sign the latter permanently) and for that we should be looking for someone stronger in the air who will pair better with Torres. Despite being pretty poor for us Carlos did offer a much better option alongside Pau and many of our best results in the last 2 years were with that pairing, I firmly beleive that getting the right partner for him would make Pau far more assured, weirdly Mings would be perfect for him.

Maybe we'll cash in on Konsa. What was he, £12m six years ago? Plus, we can apply the inexplicable premium that England centre-backs attract.

However it feels right now, however the summer goes, this is why the sun will come out for us again next season.

I deleted X about three weeks ago or so, I’m so much better without it. However I click on these links by mistake and it try’s to open in my browser, then I have to quickly abandon!
