Well gents I hope so but today was beyond awful and as much as I love him, I just cannot countenance a display like that without calling into question the motivation of the manager, in a competition where we have served up rubbish of this kind before.

They say it's a fine line between genius and madness. Most of the time he's genius but when he hops the line into madness he goes full madness. And you never want to go full madness.

Well unless you're Suggs.

It’s not motivation. The impression I get is he sometimes overthinks - in Palace’s case he worries about the direct threat they present and tries to control the game. But actually if we played to our strengths we’d likely out gun them. For this Villa side specifically, if we veer towards conservatism it often doesn’t work out.

He usually has the odd stinker, but he's had 2 in a bastard row now.

You'll probably get most of H&V on board with that one.

We've won 4 of 6 games against Spurs under Emery.

The other two games were utter twattings though.

My point was he set up weird down there last season and we got away with the 1st half and somehow came in level. He changed it at half time and we won in the end, but then at home he changed us to match up to them and they gubbed us. Made a weird change down there this season and a strong position turned into a horror show.

It struck me a bit a bit odd and now we have him over thinking Crystal fucking Palace.

I love the fellow but I’m not sure he did much thinking about that today. We all knew exactly how they’d set up and he did nothing to counter it or make them change approach. The fact the team played like a bunch of duffers just exacerbated his approach.

There was no obvious game plan or tactics. We did fuck all to counter them. Did nothing to move the ball quicker. I hated every minute of that

Tippy tappy sideways backwards bollocks has to end.
It’s had its day. We need to move forward.

He’s built a reputation on winning cups. It wasn’t because he didn’t care enough. It was because he, and his team, weren’t good enough.

Is the correct answer. He clearly didn't care one bit about the league cup though, didn't agree with that at the time. The two semi final defeats under Emery have been pretty bad but let's hope for a strong league finish.

There was a game plan, but it relied on us not conceding first and once we did we couldn’t adjust because we were in the wrong mindset.

The it was a terrible plan for a team that concedes as soon as the opposition shoots.

We started in first gear and stayed there as the clutch broke and the gear box fell out.

Don’t disagree - but it’s really clear we wanted to control and pick off later. It doesn’t work for us, the percentages are much more in our favour if we go for teams. It comes with risk, but our strength is going forward.

We cannot control a game in the manner we seem to desperately want to. We play slow, give the opposition time and endless encouragement until we bollocks it up and concede anyway.

There have been precious few good domestic cup performances under this Manager. I thought he was getting it this season but today looked like he was as far away as ever.
