I slated him a couple or weeks ago after far too many drinks but clearly he is a class act and we are very lucky to have him.
I do sometimes worry about the amount of control he has at the the club though but I guess that drives him on to succeed.

I know we all love him and praise Unai a lot, but to suggest the first half against Bruges panned-out as planned is a leap. Emery, McGinn and Mings all said in their post-match interviews that we didn't play well, our press was wrong and we weren't in control. The half-time subs and Asensio's ability to exploit the extra space with Bruges down to 10 men was what made the difference.

They are a decent team and all the breaks went for us over the two legs (just as they had done for Bruges against Atalanta in the last round).

I think we've still flattered to deceive in the majority of our games this season. I just hope we're building to a fluidity that will see us slay teams in April and May.

In a way it did. Not letting them back into the game  is one thing he would have said. The sending off made it easier.

By far the highest priority was to not let them back into the tie. On that basis a half where the opposition create 4 chances and only force 1 save (and that was very easy) is a good half in context and it made the 2nd half very easy for us. It might not have been completely to plan but we've all see Emery when things aren't working and we didn't see that at all.

I'm reminded here of Liverpool v Arsenal in 1989. Everyone thought George Graham would have Arsenall attacking from the off, when in reality they were as cautious as ever. After the match Graham said the reason was because they had to get two goals, no matter how late, but if they'd lost an early one they were sunk. Sometimes you have to accept that the manager knows best.

The execution of the tactics didn't seem to go to plan but the tactics reminded me a lot of the Man City home game. First half - set-up with a low block and ideally hit them with transitions, trying to keep it tight and save energy for the second half. Second half - more control, more aggressive, look to go and win the game.
