This man deserves so much credit. (As do I for resurrecting Emery's page from where it was)

When was the last time we were still in three competitions at the beginning of April?

I seem to remember us challenging for there, thereabouts and putting our boots on a few years back. I think we got our boots on.

Yep, and if only we'd known then that 18 short years later, the world would see the mechanised slaughter of WW1.

I think we've won five in a row in all comps now. What's our record of consecutive victories with Emery and generally for Villa?

Yep and only 1 goal conceded in that run which has been very welcome.

Amazing what happens when you stop giving away soft goals.

When was the last time we were still in three competitions at the beginning of April?
Never, in my memory. 1996 is nearest as we won the League Cup on 24 March but lost the FA cup semi final to Liverpool on 31 March and whilst we finished 4th in the League we were not in the reckoning for a CL place.

We are not really in three competitions now. The battle for 5th isn’t a recognised competition

No, but the league overall is a competition to see how high you can finish.

We won the 1996 League Cup in March, and were knocked out of the FA Cup at the end of the same month, so we've never gone into April still competing in three competitions. Unless we're counting stuff like the Birmingham Senior Cup.

You're only competing in a competition in the football sense if you're in with a chance of winning it. We're not going win the league so it's 2, which is still damn good going.

And as proof, no one would have said we were still in 2 competitions in April 2015 when we were fighting relegation as well as still in the FAC. And that's with staying up being more important than any European qualification.

I don't agree.

You're still in a league competition until your finishing position is mathematically guaranteed.

If it were only about winning, why would 17 or so clubs even enter the PL?

You're welcome to disagree. But no one would be saying we're still in 3 competitions if we were 14th. Even though we technically would be it's not how the term is used in a football sense.
