The speed at which folk elevate themselves to Manchester United levels of entitlement is a bit worrying.

Wanting to not concede two goals a game is entitlement?

We started this season a right back and centre half short.
It’s coming home to roost.
Who’s at fault for this?

I'd imagine the tight financial restrictions we were under in the summer played a part.  Might be wrong, but I'm guessing the purchase of the RB or CB that we clearly needed and still do, relied on us selling Diego Carlos.
Which again calls out the Maatsen signing.
We did not need a left back, we did need a RB.

Maatsen signing might have been a PSR favour to Chelsea, as well as getting us a player with CL experience.

I'm sure there was an element of mutual backscratching with the Kellyman/Maatsen deal, but it still ended with us paying £30m+ for a left back we didn't really need. And I like Onana, but £50m was a huge amount of money for him. I didn't think the summer's business had prepared us adequately for this season, and so far it's definitely working out like that.

We do need 2 quality left backs. The fact that we could do with more and better in other positions doesn’t alter this. So Maatsen was needed.

It’s probably the ingrained Villa supporter in me, but I’m never comfortable with big money signings, it just feels like the stakes are too high, and a greater capacity for things to go wrong.

We already had Digne and Moreno.

It might, but it was still  an unnecessary acquisition.

Both of whom are the wrong side of 30. Maatsen is the future.

I'm trying to understand what you mean by being called out.

I want on someone to ask Emery directly.  "Why are we shipping so many goals?  Why have we been doing it for months and what are you doing about it?"  Whether that's someone from the board or the media is neither here nor there.

I think he was an opportunistic signing. He’s expected to be a world class left back. He isn’t that at the moment. My question is whether we should be making those type of signings yet. We need to consolidate before thinking too far ahead.

sacrificing the present for a punt on a player in a position we did not need is not the way to a successful future.

Exactly, you do that when you have all bases covered. We didn’t when we made that deal.
We have tried to change too many things too quickly.

Exactly. I’ve no problem with this signing. It’s about time we’re signing quality young players and not just potential.

Do you think it's not being asked, discussed or that he's unaware of it? Do you think at present we have the players to fix the hole in midfield?
