To an extent I think it is lots of individual mistakes, but it’s not really the glaring mistakes that’s the root cause. It’s players failing to track runs, or occupy the space they’re meant to which is exposing the defence. I suspect Kamara normally covers it.

I feel this season we haven’t anticipated that second ball as well .  more reactive than proactive

Where has the defensive line gone? Carlos played in it a few times last season and did well early on. How can it be so shit now?

It’s because the press in front of the back line is going wrong. If you don’t put pressure on the ball it becomes really easy to beat the high line.

It’s an oft-made point by the pundits, who mostly just copy what other pundits say,, but it’s not quite right. We often play the high-line without a press in front of it - on purpose. We’ve been doing it ever since Emery came in. We just take our chances with it.

I don’t think there’s ever a complete absence of a press, it might not a high one but when we’ve done well there’s been an engagement point where we pressure quite a bit. At the moment it feels like the team just isn’t doing the off the ball work consistently well.

Carlos always wants to drop off. That one Delap missed last weekend is another case in point. He was waiting so long for the through pass, that should have been an easy one to trap offside. Carlos at least 5 yards too deep.

Bailey for one isn't working hard enough on his wing and I thought our midfield two in the first half on Sunday provided no cover.

Knows exactly what he's doing.

A managerial God.

His changes won the game.

As close to a perfect performance as it’s possible to get.

Emery had a plan. He probably has been drilling that plan into them since the day of the draw.

I would hate to be a coach against his team.

Not that I can't win.

But I can lose readily even with a better team and a better performance.

Infuriating.
