The manager of the month curse may apply to lesser mortals but SUE laughs in the fucking face of such nonsense! Everton FC will be destroyed.

He was the answer to a question on The Chase today. The Chaser and the contestant both answered correctly.

Used to be a giant bottles of Bell’s, held aloft on the pitch.

Think that did for Howard Kendall in the end.

Dean Saunders tells a story of when he was being sold by possibly Derby or maybe Liverpool. Either way both Clough and Kendall were trying to sign him. Clough had him round his house and was essentially crawling on his hands and knees and Kendall met him at a service station near Stoke and was basically drinking a pint of wine. Ive paraphrased loads, but the way Saunders told it was both funny and tragic, they were both great managers and in the end chronic alcoholics.

Probably when he left Derby, I think I recall that Everton and Forest were strongly linked along with Liverpool. Everton had all but signed Mark Wright from Derby during the same summer until the very last minute when he decided to join Saunders at Liverpool.

Anyway, Bells is awful, for a few quid more you can get some lovely whiskey, it’s like chalk and cheese.

Not that we need another reason to love Unai Emery but here he is talking about Ezri Konsa. The players must absolutely love working for a manager not only dedicated to making them better but also one who does his utmost to raise them up emotionally. To believe in themselves and improve in every way.

It was also roundly debunked as untrue.

Which bit? I've only heard him talk about the Clough interaction but he goes in to quite a bit of detail. It's a decent imagination if it isn't true.

The Clough story. A few people have said it's made up.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2016/sep/07/brian-clough-dean-saunders-nottingham-forest

Fair enough, I had never read that before and the article makes some good points about Saunders making profit out of Cloughs problems and Kendalls as it happens.

I've heard it before and I don't think he was poking fun at or trying to exploit Brian Clough's drinking problem.  I think it comes across as him trying to paint a picture of how bizarre the encounter was.
