If Real Madrid decide that Emery is the manager that they want to replace Ancellotti next summer, or if Barcelona come calling then he will be gone.

I would be surprised if he left us part way through a season to manage United.

I'd agree with that to a point. I don't think he'll leave this year if we don't qualify for CL. But we will have to get there next season, if not this season, or he probably will start to look at other offers.

Surely though the lack of "success" in this scenario is going to limit the interest that other clubs might have? If he finishes say,
seventh, sixth, sixth with us over the next couple of years - is that the sort of record that is going to have Barcelona or Bayern Munich desperate to make him their manager?

I get the insecurity that drives this thought process (years after years of players leaving, usually at just the wrong time).  But I genuinely think Emery is different. He's here for a few years at least and the football media needs to understand.

Look - sure, he might go, but we know already that Emery's a different kind of cat. Everything he says and does in his career suggests this.

I'm not naive enough to say this time is different.  But the board has fully supported him in everyway - I don't think he leaves this season or next because of that.  I think the owners are savvy enough to have thought about that and had the conversation.  I also don't think he gets that level of freedom anywhere else.

I am convinced Unai could be the perfect fit for us, and us for him.  I can picture a future where he is our Wenger and wins countless trophies, but I also believe it's far more likely he fucks off somewhere else cos that's what always happened.

Everyone seems to have missed the point that our owners are as rich as they need to be, and huge changes are happening on and off the field.  I also think you can see the ruthlessness in these owners - its no coincidence that  Purslow gone which must be in part because they didn't think he was doing a good enough job at the role he was doing.

What I really get fucked off with is talentless pundits like Carragher put their two-penth in, trying to peddle the self-fulfilling narrative.

Carragher strikes me as a petty, thick twat.  And shows what's wrong with football in this country - low-level narrative and fawning over "big" clubs and players.  Whilst never questioning the elephants in the room - like how come the very best players in the world never play in the PL.  And how come England never win anything.  Hes part of the systematic rotten core of everything thats wrong with football in the UK.

I don't think he's about to go anywhere right now.

We have done a great job putting in a football structure, and basing it all around him as he wanted, but it does make me nervous should he at some time take the Barcelona or Real Madrid job (the only ones I can see him leaving for), in that we'd be losing not just his (extensive) coaching team (except Macphee, I imagine) but also more than likely a chunk of the off-pitch management.

For example, what would happen with Vidagany? Or Monchi? Or the scouting people? Or the other appointments (medical team the latest)?

I don't necessary see Vidagany and Monchi going wherever he went, as there may very well be people in place, but how much permanence would they be likely to have with us without Emery here?

I guess the flipside of building a structure around a world class manager is that if you lose them, they leave a much bigger hole than most managers.

On the subject of Emery to Real Madrid, it's pretty much an open secret that Xabi Alonso is going there from Leverkusen at the end of the season when Ancelotti leaves. So you'd think that he'd be there for a good few seasons.

Unless Xavi really screws things up and they end up third or lower, it's hard to see Barcelona booting him out either any time soon.

So a bit like Emi and all the clubs that could afford him not needing him, I'm not sure there'd be a vacancy in Spain anytime soon for him. Unless Simeone leaves Atletico.

This his first full season with us and the first time he's had a full transfer window and pre-season. Even with the transfer window though, 7 or 8 of the starting eleven each week are players he inherited from Gerrard (and Smith before him), and he's STILL bang on track for the top 5. In the Premier League, I think Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City are nailed on for 3 of the top 5 places, and I can't see any of them changing managers any time in the net 2-3 years at least. Man U and Chelsea are basket cases, so can't see him going to either of those.

He's the absolute lord of all he surveys, and he's being allowed to build a dynasty. Why would he pack that in for the guaranteed sack after 18 months at Man U? He can achieve everything he wants at Villa. We've got superstars in Martinez/Torres/Diaby/Luiz, potential greats in Ramsey/Kamara/Konsa, and very very good players in Watkins and McGinn. Three or four more of the world class additions over the next couple fo windows, and we'll be absolutely cemented in that top 4.

He has jumped clubs for 'better' jobs before. I seem to remember something happening around this time last year, for example. It's not the work of Satan to suggest he might do so again when the chance arises.

He'd been there a few years and won stuff before he jumped though.

Indeed. It's not to suggest he definitely won't do it, but that he is a guy who we know is obsessed with completing 'projects'.

But it’s not like we don’t know he’d probably go to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man City etc. But does it need to be said? Villa fans don’t want to hear that, we’re having a lovely time. Leave us alone.

Surely the concise way to put it is that he would probably leave us if a "better" job came up, but it's looking increasingly unlikely that anything that qualifies as a better job than his current one will become available to him.
