We’ve been quite weird so far this season. Obviously our points tally in the league is good, and we’re well placed, but I find it really hard to know what to expect from game to game. Sometimes we show real intensity and intent, pinging the ball around with real class. Other times we look like a rabble, with zero intensity and almost like we’ve never met. Some of that is probably down to rotation, but it’s not all that.

I’m really hoping Unai gets his message across throughout the squad quickly and we start seeing the former on a much more consistent basis. We need to be better.

Every single cup exit someone says "that team was good enough to win that game" and yet every single time we play a weakened team we lose. Someone put it very well after Stevenage, there is no way he would pick that team for a league game. And here we are again, another weakened team, another defeat. I just about understand the need for squad rotation but how about one or two players at a time? How about not making us significantly weaker defensively?

What Unai has done for us, he's almost above criticism. Note, almost. Picking shit teams and losing easy cup games is not fucking OK.

The summer recruitment was supposed to give us a squad capable of challenging on numerous fronts. We've been utterly outplayed in both Europe and the cup tonight. When the majority of last season's first team play in the league games, then the recruitment isn't such an issue.

Not to use the injured players as an excuse, but with Buendia, Moreno, Mings, Carlos and Ramsey all fit, players like Chambers, Tielemans, and Donk are 3rd string. Things like McGinn at LB don't happen.

It's a squad game now and other than Mcginn at left back  and Olsen, it wasn't that much of weakened side anyway. They're all internationals.

Absolutely no excuse for McGinn at left back under any circumstances. He could have played Torres there, or Digne from the start.

McGinn's played wing-back fine before, but the back four version was a million miles from good enough.

Torres at left-back though, given his pace-on-the-turn issues...

But we've got 3 games in 9 days from Saturday. He can't play the same team every week. It's not 1982.

Depending on what's happening with Moreno, Digne is going to have to play a lot of games over the next few weeks. So I understand him being rested. I did ask elsewhere if Chambers or Lenglet picked up a last minute injury because surely using one of them makes more sense than McGinn.

Don't get me wrong, there's still some questionable decisions being made. I just think most of the work done in the window was with the thinking we'd have 4/5 other players in the rotation.

I stand by what I said. He doesn't care about cup games and every selection he has made, apart from Hibs away, confirms that.

Criminal to play McGinn at full back never mind on the left ! Also meant us having to fit two planks into midfield. Not sage Unai.

You do know he's won the Europa League five times? If you think we should  be full strength every game, then fair enough. Every manager probably rotated tonight, not just Emery .

I think it’s more that he’s prioritising the league games, and hoping there’s enough in the cups. It’s not working, but his whole management career will show you he cares about cups.

Yep Newcastle made 10 changes for example. Perhaps it just shows we haven't got quality squad depth especially with the injuries.

All I see is results. I don't care what other teams do. Every time he picks a team which he wouldn't dream of picking in the league, we lose. Just stop doing it. Change one or two players maybe but I'm fed up of chucking cup games. They do matter.
