The wheels had well and truly come off MON by this point - he resigned in that close season. Nowhere near as shameful of Lambert's effort a couple of years later.

I get the frustration but we can’t play the same team every game. The problem is more that any time we rotate the players don’t look like they have a clue what’s going on.

The summer recruitment looks less and less clever with every defeat.

What about with every win?

You've missed the point by about a million miles, as per usual.

Agree

We needed fullbacks, a striker, a better back up goalie and a decent winger.

We got two slow centre backs, a half arsed midfielder and a decent winger.

But with the last two cup changes, he has deliberately handicapped the team with his weird defensive changes. Against Legia he decided Chambers can play at right back instead of Konsa. So we suddenly have a defensive team who don't know what they are doing, plus you automatically are telling the rivals that all you attacks are only coming down the other side, so pin that LB back and then our attack is narrowed.

And god knows what he was doing today with McGinn, who has been poor most of the season on the left, as a wing back?

Have I? No-one mentioned the summer window after the game on Sunday. It's easy to get angry and say it after a defeat. They were utterly shit tonight, the whole team were and not just the new boys.

Apart from SJM at LB which was a bit weird, that team should have been capable of a much better performance. We were up against a side that created very little, we created most of their best chances for them. Unai needs to work out wtf is going on with a few of them, especially Gobby Tielemans.

I am starting to worry that there hasn't actually been one performance this season where we can honestly say 'yeah, that was the business.'

The summer recruitment was supposed to give us a squad capable of challenging on numerous fronts. We've been utterly outplayed in both Europe and the cup tonight. When the majority of last season's first team play in the league games, then the recruitment isn't such an issue.

We've said that after every cup defeat now, so either those players aren't actually capable of a better performance, or Emery can't organise the second string properly. Unfortunately with McGinn at left back, following on from Chambers at right back, it's starting to look a bit like the latter.
